Last night our department significantly upgraded our hydraulic tools. We purchased all new battery operated Amkus tools. This will ensure we are better prepared to respond to the wide variety of calls we are responsible for and replaces equipment that was almost 25 years old.

A special thank you goes out to our Executive Director Kim Minkel, Aviation Director Lee Weitz, and Chief Bill Major for working hard to secure the funding for this life saving equipment.

Great Job NFTA Transit Authority Police Department! We are proud of what you do for the community.

Merry Christmas everyone. This weekend has been one we will remember forever. Below is a beautiful article about the amazing people who work at our department and part of what they were up to this weekend.

We would also like to recognize all of the responders in the Buffalo area for helping so many people. This is just one story of many from this weekend. It took so many to help make this happen, not just our firefighters. Thank you to all of you, especially HyView Fire, for assisting with getting this family to safety. Without Chief Dan Hatfield and his people, we couldnโ€™t have been successful. We also have to recognize our Airfield Department because they risked a lot to help rescue people with us and spent countless hours clearing a path to the terminal to get food for everyone and bring it back to the firehouse. The NFTA Police were also doing amazing work on the other side property. Capt Loubert and his officers were amazing.

So many amazing people doing extraordinary things for others this weekend. That is the true spirit of Christmas.

Thank You and Merry Christmas!!!! ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ„ โค๏ธ

When the blizzard first hit Buffalo, New York, a family of six packed up their bags and headed to a local hotel after they lost power at their home -- but they ended up celebrating Christmas somewhere a little more surprising.

Today is special day for one of the best firefighters you could ever serve with. Bobby has been a Chief in West Seneca for many years, a county fire instructor, and has been an integral member of our department for over 13 years. He is extremely humble and some would even say a little shy. Please help us in wishing him a Happy 40th Birthday!!!
We love you Bobby Kaminski!

The 1st Platoon celebrated the Labor Day holiday with their families at the firehouse today. Being a firefighter is like being part of a big family. Tonight the 1st Platoon participated in refresher EMS training. Since everyone in the firehouse is overly competitive, checking blood sugars turned into a competition. The highest blood sugar was punished with buying the platoon ice cream. The lowest blood sugar was forced to go pick it up. Our highest blood sugar was 144 and the lowest was 62. Iโ€™m not sure why we punished the person with the lowest, but those were the rules set by Firefighter Szymanski.

Great job keeping training fun and engaging.

I think next time we will challenge another Fire Department.

Congratulations Lee!!

We'd like to thank all of our local fire departments as well as those from neighboring agencies for their assistance in yesterday's fire at the Buffalo's Best Catering building on Ridge Rd. Firefighters were able to clear the majority of the building for any remaining occupants before the roof collapsed, and they had several close calls. In addition to being home to the catering business, the building was home to over a dozen tenants, some of whom were still trapped inside on the 2nd floor. We'd like to particularly recognize WSPD Officer Leitzel along with Lackawanna PD Officer Strehlow who arrived on scene first and who are shown here in this photo that was provided to us. The smoke from this fire was overwhelming. Officers were able to use a ladder provided by a Good Samaritan to get on the roof, where they helped to rescue several residents through a 2nd floor window and assist them down the ladder to safety.

Although the damage to the property and resident's belongings was devastating, it can be replaced. Thanks to the quick action of a Good Samaritan, officers first on scene, and to the bravery of the firefighters, there was no loss of life or major injuries. Thank you to all that assisted.
