EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: The overnight parking ban has been lifted. You can begin parking on the streets tonight. In the unlikely event of a significant snow event, please use common sense and remove your car from the street so our Town Highway plows can get down your street for efficient snow removal. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Fall Leaf Collection

If you have leaves to be picked up from the middle of April to November 16, you should put them in yard waste containers that will be picked up by our Sanitation Department the day of your regular garbage pickup day.

This year, the Highway Department will pick up loose leaves out at the curb (not in the street) during the month of November or until the first snowfall. Leaf pickup starting in November will be every week and will be the day after your regular garbage pickup day.

Here are a few commonly asked questions about the Town’s Leaf Pickup Program.

Question 1: Can I rake leaves into the street?
Answer: NO. It’s unsafe and illegal. Leaves in the street plug the receivers during rain events and it causes vehicles to swerve into traffic unexpectedly causing an unsafe condition. They are also hard to pick up after they are driven over repeatedly, which slows down the leaf collection process.

Question 2: Why can’t you schedule leaf pickup?
Answer: Our town has over 1000 streets. Leaves also fall at different times throughout the Town. We put our resources where they are needed most, and move throughout the Town as fast as we can. This year leaf pickup by Highway will start in November and will be every week. Your leaf pickup day will be the day after your regular garbage pickup day.

Question 4: Should I call the Highway to get my leaves picked up?
Answer: Generally no. If you think you were missed, or if it has been more than 2 weeks between a pickup then call the Highway Department. Please remember we do sometimes have weather emergencies or equipment breakdowns that might delay pick up, however, our goal is to get all the leaves picked up by November 30th.

One last comment: Very small amounts of leaves should be put in your yard waste containers for Sanitation to pickup until November 16. It takes an entire crew to stop and pick up small amounts of leaves. This slows down our pickup efficiency. We encourage residents to put out leaves at their earliest convenience. As stated previously we will continue to pick up leaves until they are all gone or the snow prevents us from doing so.
