I did a ride a long with our police department in August. As a member of the city policy making body, I believe understanding how they do their job is critical. What started off as a quiet night doing paperwork on a fender bender, turned into rushing across town with the lights flashing, racing to a shooting. I watched our local officers do chest compression on the victim before medics arrived. I am certain they saved that mans life. Our police have an incredibly difficult job that can go from zero to a hundred (literally) in seconds. We should be giving them more resources, not less. I am so incredibly proud of the officers that serve my hometown. They earn their pay every shift. Any policy maker that wants to tell them how to do their job, needs to sit in that front seat with them and try and understand the role they have in our communities.

This Summer, I toured the largest homeless camp in the county with our Sheriff, County Commissioner Swope, the county health officer and State Rep. Peter Abbarno. The conditions were heartbreaking. This cannot be allowed to continue.
