🚨 Siren Reminder 🚨
Today is our first Red Flag Warning of the season. Each year, we like to remind our citizens why you may hear the community siren.
The siren is activated when a fire has grown beyond our initial response capacity and we are requesting all available Volunteer Firefighters, off-duty Career Firefighters, and mutual aid from our neighboring fire districts.
The community siren is intended to notify residents that a significant emergency is occurring and to be aware of their surroundings. Here's how it helps:
• Provides valuable early warning. Fires can spread rapidly in our valley, and every second of notice can make a difference if a fire is approaching your area.
• Alerts you to increased emergency response traffic. Fire engines and emergency vehicles from surrounding districts will be responding, so please use extra caution on the road and yield to emergency vehicles.
The siren is only activated for:
• Second-alarm or greater brush/wildland fires
• Residential structure fires
• Commercial structure fires
When you hear the siren, it means something significant is affecting our fire district and requires a response from all available local emergency resources.
We will provide updates on our social media pages as quickly as we can.

🚨Chestnut Fire Update🚨 Chelan Fire and Rescue crews, along with 2nd and 3rd alarm resources from Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties, DNR, and the USFS, responded aggressively yesterday to the fire on the back side of Chelan Butte in high winds. As winds eased and temperatures cooled, fire behavior moderated. Multiple aircraft helped slow the fire’s spread.
After this morning’s infrared flight, the fire acreage was lowered to 1,500 acres. Containment was 20% as of last night, and the Chelan Falls area remains under a Level 2 evacuation advisory.
No structures have been lost, and no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Today’s progress reflects the aggressive and coordinated efforts of our local fire resources. Evacuation levels are expected to be reduced later this afternoon.
