The Soldiers’ Home is an important part of our district and our community.
Based on recent conversations around the redevelopment, the plan is for current veteran residents to remain, and for future veteran applicants to receive priority for new units.
Our veterans deserve stability, respect, and to remain at the center of every step in this process.

I want to be clear—I support development that strengthens our community—I’m not against growth. But I am concerned about what happens when we start rolling back the very protections that help keep people rooted here.

For me, this isn’t about being for or against development. It’s about how that development shows up, who it’s accountable to, and whether it reflects the needs of the community as a whole. Growth should be inclusive, thoughtful, and responsible—something that builds on what’s already here rather than quietly leaving people behind.

We can move forward without losing sight of that.

Quiero ser clara/o: apoyo el desarrollo que fortalece a nuestra comunidad—no estoy en contra del crecimiento. Pero sí me preocupa lo que pasa cuando empezamos a eliminar las protecciones que ayudan a que las personas puedan mantenerse arraigadas aquí.

Para mí, esto no se trata de estar a favor o en contra del desarrollo. Se trata de cómo se lleva a cabo, a quién le rinde cuentas y si realmente refleja las necesidades de toda la comunidad. El crecimiento debe ser inclusivo, consciente y responsable—algo que construya sobre lo que ya existe en lugar de dejar a la gente atrás en silencio.

Podemos avanzar sin perder de vista eso.

Over the weekend I had an amazing time at a beautiful showing at Teatro Chelsea, written and directed by Armando Rivera. Thank you so much for the invite! Featuring an all–Puerto Rican cast, the play is a powerful tribute to Puerto Rican pride, culture, and history—so much of which is often overlooked or untaught. I highly recommend attending; this upcoming week is the final showing of The Beautiful Land I Seek. Please, please go check it out.
