📣 PLEASE SHARE: AmWaste Customer Service Information for Chelsea Residents

As Chelsea continues the transition to our new residential garbage service provider, we want to make sure everyone knows exactly where to go with questions.

The phone number and email shown below are Chelsea-specific, and AmWaste has a dedicated representative working with Chelsea City Hall to help serve our approximately 18,000 residents.

📞 Phone: (205) 377-8134
📧 Email: [email protected]

At this time, email is often the fastest way to receive a response, but both phone and email are available.

We appreciate both Republic Services and AmWaste for the work involved in transitioning thousands of Chelsea households over the past 10 DAYS. AmWaste continues to respond to questions, requests and concerns as the new service gets underway.

A few of the most common questions we are hearing:

• How much is an additional cart? Approximately $8.
• When is my bulk pickup day? Your bulk pickup day is the day after your regular trash day. If your trash pickup is Friday, your bulk pickup will be Monday.
• Where can I find my trash pickup day? Visit www.cityofchelsea.com and use the digital map on our homepage or our Trash Pickup page.
• Do I need to sign up with AmWaste if I was already a Republic Services customer? No. Republic Services provided the customer list to AmWaste so existing residential accounts could be established for the transition.
• What is the new rate? Residential service is $63.63 per quarter, a 47% reduction under the new service schedule.
• Is curbside recycling included? No. The City is instead providing recycling locations for residents who would like to participate, with the goal of making sure those materials are actually being recycled.
• Can I set up automatic payments? Yes. Visit amwasteusa.com to securely add payment information and set up autopay.
• New to Chelsea? New residents can establish service at amwasteusa.com/service-sign-up.

You can also find frequently asked questions, service details and updates here: https://www.cityofchelsea.com/256/Trash-Pickup

And if you would like to hear more about the transition, two AmWaste representatives attended the most recent Chelsea City Council meeting and answered questions and comments from our Mayor and Council near the end of the meeting.

Thank you for your patience, your questions and your help sharing accurate information with your neighbors. We know transitions of this size take coordination, and we appreciate everyone working together as the new service gets established.

🎨 A Chelsea Community Mural is in the works!
We’re excited to share that the City of Chelsea was awarded a $2,500 Gateway Grant through the Alabama Power Foundation to help bring a community mural to Chelsea!

When we originally applied for the grant, we developed a concept and identified a potential location near City Hall. As we’ve continued planning, however, another possible location may provide an even better long-term home for the mural — so before we finalize anything, we want to take the time to get this project right.

And that means we’re ready to start connecting with some creative people! We are currently looking for local artists, muralists and designers from Chelsea and the surrounding area who may be interested in helping create a high-quality original public art piece that represents our community.

Our original concept featured the word CHELSEA in large lettering with imagery representing our history, parks and natural beauty, schools, community traditions and the spirit behind "It’s All About Family."

That was simply our starting point, though. We would love to hear ideas from artists who may see an entirely different creative direction for the project.

Large-scale murals can be a significant investment, so we are also interested in hearing from businesses or individuals who may want to provide sponsorship, materials, equipment, professional services or other in-kind support toward the project.

This mural likely will not be installed for several months, but we’d like to begin building our team, exploring ideas and understanding our options now.

If you are an artist, designer, muralist, business owner or community partner interested in being part of the Chelsea Community Mural Project, please email [email protected].

We can’t wait to see where this project goes — and eventually add a piece of public art that feels unmistakably Chelsea. 💙

🌾 The Chelsea Scarecrow Trail is growing — and we are loving the response!

We already have 18 local businesses, schools, churches, teams and community organizations registered to help bring Chelsea to life this October.

From Girl Scouts and gymnastics to local businesses, athletics, churches and the Chelsea Public Library, we cannot wait to see the creativity each group brings to the trail.

There is still time to join in!

Don’t have a storefront or a good place to display your scarecrow? No problem — we’ll have space available on the City Hall lawn for participating groups that need a home for their creation.

Registration is open through September 20, or until all available scarecrow kits have been claimed.

And a special thank you to Oak Mtn Building Supply for supporting the Chelsea Scarecrow Trail and helping us bring this new community activity to life!
