Today, April 6th, 2026, at approximately 12:27 p.m., the Tama County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a single vehicle traffic incident near the intersection of Highway E64 (Haven Blacktop) and Q Avenue.

The preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling west on Highway E64 when it left the roadway, hit the ditch bank at Q Avenue, went airborne, and came to rest in a field west of the intersection.

The adult male driver who was the only person in the vehicle, was found outside the vehicle with potentially life-threatening injuries. The driverโ€™s condition after being flown from the scene is not known at this time.

Tama Fire, Chelsea Fire, and Tama Ambulance responded. Due to the severity of the crash, a University of Iowa AirCare helicopter was requested. The patient was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for further care.

The Tama County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to the scene and is handling the ongoing investigation.

Sheriff Casey Schmidt
