Can I clear something up?

A lot of people think tree work is low skill labor.

I get it. From the outside it probably looks that way.

Guy climbs a tree. Cuts some branches. Done.

But let me tell you what's actually happening up there.

Right now I've got a guy suspended in a tree. Strapped in by a couple of ropes. Running a chainsaw. Thirty feet off the ground.

He's reading the tree in real time. Figuring out which cut to make next. Thinking three moves ahead about where each piece is going to fall and how to control it on the way down.

One wrong decision and somebody gets hurt.

This is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. And I mean that literally. The statistics back it up.

Most people don't realize how much goes into training someone to do this work safely.

Even after someone joins our crew it takes years before I feel truly comfortable with them up in the trees.

Not weeks. Not months.

YEARS of learning, practicing, making mistakes on the ground, and slowly earning the right to work at height with a running chainsaw.
So when you get a quote from someone who is dramatically cheaper than everyone else, I'd ask yourself one question.

How much do you actually know about the person they're sending up your tree?

We take this seriously because we have to.

The margin for error up there is basically zero.

This is Mrs. Sneddon.

A few months ago we removed a monster locust tree from her property.

She called us back recently to have this one trimmed up and brought back in so it wasn't blocking her neighbor's yard and driveway.

I love jobs like this one.

Not because they're the biggest or the most technical.

But because of what they represent.

Mrs. Sneddon trusted us the first time.

And she called us back.

That's everything to me.

In this business you can get a job from anyone. But getting called back means you actually did something right. It means someone felt good enough about the experience to pick up the phone again instead of starting over with someone new.

We don't take that lightly.

Every job we do is someone's home. Their yard. The place their kids play and their family gathers.

We try to treat it that way every single time.

So when Mrs. Sneddon called us back I made sure we showed up the same way we always do.

We went out to remove a maple last week and found out it was already someone's home.

Meet the tenant.

He was not consulted about the removal.

After we found him in there we did some research on wildlife removal companies in the area.

Turns out most of them euthanize when they catch them.
We weren't okay with that.

So we changed the plan.

We removed the hazardous parts of the maple that needed to come down for safety. But we left his home standing.
We even added little roofs to the tree tops so the rain couldn't get in.

I've been doing this work in Spokane for six years.

And I can tell you sometimes the job doesn't go exactly the way you planned it.

Sometimes you show up to do one thing and you end up doing something completely different because it's just the right thing to do.

Hello Spokane and surrounding areas!

My name is Curtis Point and I own Curtis Point Tree Service. You've probably seen our trucks around town, but I wanted to take a second and introduce myself — the actual person behind the business.

A few things about me that have nothing to do with trees:

I've been married to Nia for 10 years. She's the real reason this business works. I handle the trees. She handles everything else. (She'd probably say that's accurate.)

We have 6 kids, ages 17yrs to 10 months They keep us busy and remind me every single day why I do this.

We treat every customer the way we'd want to be treated. That's not a slogan — it's just how we were raised.

When I'm not working, I'm probably taking the kids to one of there sporting events or taking them out into nature. Ask me about it and I'll talk your ear off.

I started Curtis Point Tree Service 6 years ago because I wanted to build something for my family that we could be proud and I've been climbing trees my whole life.

We're a local family business. Not a franchise. Not a call center in another state. When you call us, you get us.

Okay, I'll be honest. It really annoys me when you Google "how much does tree removal cost" and every single result either gives you a useless range like "$150 to $5,000" or tries to get you to fill out a form so some random company can call you 47 times.

So here's what it actually costs. From someone who does this every day here in Spokane.

Small trees under 30 feet - $600 to $1,500.
Think small ornamental trees, young maples, stuff that's more of an inconvenience than a real project.

Medium trees 30 to 80 feet - $1,500 to $3,000.
This is where most residential jobs fall.

Large trees 80 to 120 feet - $3,000 and up.
These jobs take a crew, the right equipment, and sometimes a full day.

Very large trees 120 feet and above - $3,600 and up.
Now here's why those ranges are so wide.

A few things affect the price that most people don't think about.
How close the tree is to your house, fence, or power lines.

Whether the tree is dead, diseased, or leaning, that makes the job more technical.

Obstacles around the tree like structures, other trees, or tight spaces.

Whether we need a crane, and yes sometimes we do pull up with a crane. Your neighbors will definitely come outside for that one.
Stump grinding is usually separate and honestly worth doing.
And whether you want the debris hauled away or if you want to keep the logs for firewood.

Two trees that look exactly the same from the street can be completely different jobs once we actually get eyes on them.
One more thing worth knowing. If you've got multiple trees that need work we do offer a multi-tree discount. So if you've been putting off dealing with a few of them it's worth getting them all looked at at the same time.
