🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Through Partnership

Fire prevention is about more than responding when the alarm sounds—it’s about working together to keep our communities safe.

Today members of our department were proud to work alongside the Echo-Poland Fire Department on fire prevention efforts and education at Poland Jr. High. Partnerships like this strengthen our ability to serve our communities and help us prepare for emergencies before they happen. Not having a school in our District, Poland Jr. High was the best opportunity because most of the children in our District attend this school.

We’re also incredibly grateful for the strong relationships we have with our mutual aid departments. When the call comes in, departments work together as one team, sharing resources, knowledge, and experience to provide the best possible response.

During the month of September the District responded to a total of 10 Emergency Calls.

2 - Structure Fires/ 1 - Mutual Aid
2 - Grass Fires
2 - Control Burns
1 - Field/Crop Fire - Mutual Aid
1 - Smoke Scare
1 - Tree Down
1 - Assist EMS Agency

Members also attended a FETA Training that was hosted at our department, would like to thank the members who responded to these calls of service and attended training!

This facility will bring public safety resources together in one location, strengthening coordination between law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel while improving our ability to serve the citizens of Cheneyville and the surrounding communities.

Great job and great turnout at the Structure Fire today! Quick knock down that prevented units from being there longer than needed! Appreciate everyone that responded and volunteered their time! Also would like to thank our Auto Aid Departments, Rapides Parish Fire District 18 and Echo-Poland Fire Department for their assistance as well!

Mr. Steve Halbert received the 2026 Chief Billy Norris Lifetime Achievement Award at the Rapides Parish Firefighters Day.

Steve has been an active member of our organization for right at 50 years, and throughout that time he has consistently demonstrated the true meaning of service, commitment, and volunteerism. His dedication has not simply been measured in years, but in the countless hours, sacrifices, and acts of service he has given to others.

For right at five decades, Steve has shown up when he was needed, willingly giving his time, knowledge, and experience to help make our organization and our community stronger. He represents the kind of volunteer who does not serve for recognition, but because he believes in the importance of helping others and being part of something bigger than himself.

Steve's longevity is a testament to his character and commitment. Generation after generation of members have had the opportunity to learn from his example and benefit from his willingness to serve. He has demonstrated that being a volunteer is about more than attending meetings or participating in events—it is about being dependable, stepping forward when there is work to be done, and giving back whenever possible.

At 50 years of active membership and dedicated service, Steve Halbert has truly embodied the spirit of volunteerism. His commitment, leadership, and willingness to serve made him a great candidate for this award, thank you.
