Chenoa Police Department joins statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort
focused on impaired, distracted and unsafe driving

Chenoa, IL – The Chenoa Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. From Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Driving under the influence — whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any other impairing drug — is not just risky, it’s illegal. Chenoa Police Officers will be patrolling with zero tolerance for impaired driving, because our goal is to protect the people of our community.

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

We want our community to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly. Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired. These decisions save lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

Chenoa Police Department releases speed enforcement numbers

Chenoa, IL – The Chenoa Police Department conducted a traffic safety campaign throughout the month of July reminding motorists to slow down to save lives. The speed enforcement effort was conducted by Chenoa Police and other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities.

During the campaign, Chenoa Police Officers issued 102 Citations, including:

• [70] Speeding citations (including 6 Misdemeanor Speeding Citations)
• [1] Seat Belt citations
• [2] DUI arrests
• [2] Suspended Driver’s Licenses
• [2] Uninsured Motorist citations
• [12] Distracted Driving citations

The speed enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Chenoa Police Department Releases Fourth of July enforcement statistics

(Chenoa, Illinois) – “Chenoa Police Department made 1 impaired driving arrests and issued 2 seat belt citations during the recent Fourth of July Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket safety campaigns,” said Chief Travis Cornwall

A Total of 76 Traffic Stops with 62 Citations Issued. In Addition to the Impaired Driving Arrest, 2 arrests for Driving While License Revoked and 1 arrest for Driving While License Suspended was made. There were 45 speeding citations, 2 Improper Cellphone Use citations as well.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to get drunk and drugged drivers off our roads and encourage seat belt use.

Chenoa Police Department joined forces with more than 200 other state and local law enforcement agencies conducting the crackdown, which featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities including a media campaign.

The Illinois Independence Day enforcement campaign is funded with federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and supported by the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state. It’s reinforced with IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which shares real stories of Illinois residents lost in fatal crashes.

July is Speed Awareness Month

The Chenoa Police Department today announced it is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to step up traffic safety efforts across the state to reduce speeding. Throughout the month of July, motorists can expect increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations.

Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous. Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they are the law.

Speeding creates unnecessary risks for all motorists, reducing the driver’s ability to steer safely around other vehicles, hazardous objects or unexpected curves.

During the speed limit enforcement campaign, officers will intensify enforcement of posted speed limits. Offenders will be stopped and ticketed, especially on our busiest roadways, where many speed-related crashes occur. The goal is to save lives.

Drivers can expect a ticket from Chenoa Police Department Officers if they are spotted speeding. Stepped-up patrols by Chenoa Police Department will be seen throughout the City of Chenoa, Village of Gridley, and rural areas surrounding both towns as well as throughout the entire state by other participating agencies July 7- August 1.

The speed enforcement effort is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign and is made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT. It also supports IDOT’s broader "It’s Not a Game" media campaign.
