Chenoa Police Department begins Fourth of July crackdown on impaired drivers and seat belt law violators

(Chenoa, Illinois) – Chenoa Police Department announced plans for Independence Day traffic enforcement with a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The safety campaign will run from June 19 through July 6 to encompass three summer weekends leading up to and after the holiday.

“We’re asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely,” said Chief Cornwall. “It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use drugs. Our officers will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the road.”

Chenoa Police Department will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.

“This Fourth of July, designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive under the influence,” said Chief Cornwall.

Other important tips include:

• Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
• If you are drunk or impaired by cannabis or other drugs, call a taxi, take mass transit, use your favorite ride-sharing service or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
• Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 911.
• Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. Not only is it the law, it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.

The Illinois Independence Day enforcement campaign is funded with federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and supported by the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state. It’s reinforced with IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which shares real stories of Illinois residents lost in fatal crashes.

Chenoa Police Department reports successful Memorial Day “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns

[Chenoa, IL] — Chenoa Police Department today announced the results of its Memorial Day 2026 “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” and “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaigns aimed at combating impaired driving, increasing seat belt use and keeping roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

During the campaigns, Chenoa Police Department Conducted 39 Traffic Stops, resulting in 46 Citations Issued. Also included were 2 arrests; Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving While License Revoked, and Driving While License Suspended.

Total Citations included:
• [1] DUI arrests.
• [2] suspended/revoked license actions.
• [2] uninsured motorist citations.
• [26] speeding citations.
• [5] distracted driving citations.

The campaign’s success reflects law enforcement's commitment to roadway safety and reinforces the message that buckling up saves lives.

Zero excuses: ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign underway for Memorial Day

[Chenoa, IL] — The Chenoa Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign running May 15-26 during the Memorial Day travel period.

“Buckle up every trip, every time,” said Chief Cornwall. “Seat belts save lives, and we are committed to keeping our roads safe.”

Officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement day and night, focusing on seat belt violations. Motorists who fail to buckle up can expect to be stopped and ticketed.

Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. While usage has increased to 93% in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a concern — especially at night.

The “Click It or Ticket” initiative is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For more information on safe driving practices, visit ItsNotaGameIllinois.com.
