Meet Margaret Corbin - Revolutionary War hero, trailblazer, and the first woman in U.S. history to receive a military pension for her service.

When Fort Washington came under attack in 1776, Margaret stepped up in the most courageous way. After her husband was killed while manning a cannon, she took his place, firing, cleaning, and aiming with precision until she too was gravely wounded. Her bravery stunned fellow soldiers and marked the beginning of her own military legacy.

Though she never fully recovered from her injuries, Margaret’s sacrifice was recognized by Congress, who awarded her a soldier’s pension.

Today, we remember her grit, her courage, and her unwavering devotion to country. Margaret Corbin didn’t just make history, she helped shape it.
