Unless you are experiencing a true emergency, please stay home at this time. There are power lines down across Cherokee County, including this line blocking the roadway near 600th St. between Q Ave and R Ave.

If you are without power, please report the outage directly to your respective power company. Please reserve 911 for life safety emergencies, fires, injuries, or other immediate hazards.

Do not drive around looking at storm damage. Roads throughout the county may be blocked by downed power lines, debris, and emergency crews working in the area.

⚠️ Stay away from all downed power lines
⚠️ Assume every line is energized
⚠️ Never drive over or around barricaded hazards

Please stay safe and allow emergency responders and utility crews room to work.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are impacted by this loss.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of one of our students following a Friday night automobile accident involving students connected to both the Cherokee and River Valley school communities. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all those impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We have also been informed that three other students involved in the accident are currently in stable condition.

We recognize that this news may be difficult for many members of our school community. Counselors and support staff will be available for students and staff who may need assistance, support, or someone to talk with during this time. While we will continue with our normal schedule on Monday, we encourage anyone needing support to reach out to the office or counseling staff.

As we support one another, we ask that everyone remain mindful and respectful of the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

Please keep all those involved in the accident in your thoughts and prayers.
