I’d like to thank commissioner Mike Roach and operator Cale Gibson for helping out on the hay bale fire yesterday! Without the counties assistance, time on scene could have easily doubled if not more? Cooperation amongst agencies is a very important piece to puzzle when trying to preserve life and property. Thank you again Mike and Cale. I know I speak for the other Chiefs that were there as well!

Although we are not in a burn ban. We respectfully ask that all prescribed burns cease until Mother Nature can provide some relief in this ridiculous weather pattern we are currently experiencing! The public’s help and diligence through this drought and extreme heat. Can and will help already taxed local FD’s as well as other surrounding landowners. Check your chains while pulling trailers or equipment. Make sure a water source and spotter is available if any welding or cutting needs to be done? Please discard of your 🚬🚬 properly as well!! Your help is much appreciated!

Please avoid all outdoor burning and be mindful of outdoor activities that might spark a wildfire! With hot and dry conditions persisting along with intensifying drought conditions, wildland fuels have become more receptive to ignition. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.

Edit:

Bales have been spread out and moved off location from where they started. These bales will smolder for a few days for sure. All units are back in service!

Cherokee FD along with Carmen and Dacoma FD’s are currently working a large hay bale fire west of Cherokee. Approximately 150 bales are what we’re dealing with! Alf Co. Dist 2 is on scene with a track hoe helping as well. Great coordination amongst all entities! All units will be on scene for quite a while longer! Thankful for milder temps today and our Alf Co. EM for getting lunch out to us!
