We’ve all done it—plugged in our phone before bed and left it charging all night.
This Fire Prevention Month, make safe charging part of your routine.
When your device is fully charged, unplug it when practical.

And remember:
✔️ Use the proper charger
✔️ Charge on a hard, flat surface
✔️ Keep charging devices away from bedding and other materials
✔️ Don’t use damaged batteries or charging equipment
Small habits can help prevent big problems.

Cherry Hill Firefighters, EMTs, and Cherry Hill Fire Police members spent this afternoon at Cherry Hill Township’s annual Harvest Festival. The beautiful weather allowed us time to talk to members of our community. It also gave us an opportunity to begin training future firefighters with a hose prop. 🚨 KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS

A rechargeable battery can give you clues when something isn’t right.
Stop using a device if you notice that it:
⚠️ Gets unusually hot
⚠️ Swells or bulges
⚠️ Has a strange odor
⚠️ Leaks
⚠️ Smokes
⚠️ Makes popping or hissing sounds

Don’t ignore the warning signs.
If a battery-powered device appears damaged or is behaving unusually, stop using it and move away from the device. If there is smoke or fire, get outside and call 911.
When it comes to battery safety, trust your instincts and don’t take chances.

Phones, tablets, laptops and other rechargeable devices generate heat while charging.
Charging on a bed, couch or under a pillow can trap that heat.
Instead, charge your devices on a hard, flat surface such as a table or desk.
⚡ Charge smart.
🔥 Keep the heat away.

🔌 CHARGE SMART. STAY SAFE.

That bargain charger may seem like a great deal—but when it comes to rechargeable batteries, don’t take chances.

Always use the charging cord and power adapter that came with your device or one that is approved by the manufacturer. The wrong charger can damage a battery and increase the risk of overheating or fire.

✅ Use the manufacturer-approved charger
❌ Avoid damaged or incompatible chargers
❌ Don’t use frayed or damaged cords
A few seconds of checking can make a big difference.
