My workshops span many different types of flowers. I will be bringing more classes and videos online to share this sublime practice. As you may know, many flowers cannot be steam distilled, the heat destroys the smell, so I use an ancient method of cold extraction, known as enfleurage. We are not limited to just lilacs. I am growing peonies and hyacinth, mock orange, jasmine, gardenia, violets, and sweet peas. Plus I wild harvest Dame’s Rocket and marshmallow, and a few others to make wild invasive species perfumes. These are all flowers that do not lend themselves to steam distillation…This practice is slow, labor intensive hand work that relaxes my mind on a very deep core level. It’s not for everyone. I was always a quiet, shy and awkward child. Probably nowadays I would be labeled as ‘on the spectrum’.
Fourteen years ago, I was simply looking for a way to extract the rare, illusive, hard won, essence of lilacs, a flower that cannot be distilled, what I discovered, revitalized, and pioneered was a deeply satisfying form of meditation that brings peaceful vibes and beautiful ethereal elements into the world.
