As of April 22, 2026, the state-issued ban on open burning remains in effect statewide until further notice. All open burning is prohibited.

Dry, breezy conditions and low relative humidity are elevating fire danger statewide.

Use extreme caution with farm equipment, machines, mowers, vehicles on dry grass, smoking materials such as ci******es, anything that can throw a spark. In current conditions, these are ignition sources with the potential to start easily and spread quickly.

The burn ban will be in effect in this area for the prolonged future, with no rain in sight unfortunately. NC is currently under an extreme fire risk. Please do not burn!

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

This morning, April 13th, 2026, just before 9:00, Engine 720 responded to an electrical hazard involving power lines down Baxter Rd. Crews removed the hazard and notified Duke Energy.

Within minutes of returning to the station, just before 9:30 AM, Engine 721 responded to assist Waco Fire Department in Cleveland County with a fatal head-on collision involving multiple patients. Crews worked an extensive extrication and helped set up a landing zone for Med Center Air. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. 🙏🚒

Then just after lunchtime, Engine 720 assisted Cherryville Fire Department with a working vehicle fire. No injuries were reported, and crews brought the fire under control. 🔥🚗

A busy day for a daytime crew, but very thankful for our paid staff who keep our community safe, and a great relationship with our mutual aid partners.
