On August 24th, we will go to the Hickory Crawdads' Boy Scout night. It will be a fun night of a game, fireworks, movie on the big screen, and camping on the baseball field. Everyone will provide their own transportation to the ball field. Every scout will need a parent or guardian to attend with them. If you are interested complete the bottom portion of the handout (see email) and mail the information and payment directly to Hickory Crawdads. When you mail in your payment, let me know so I can keep a record of all that will attend.

We had a great time on our hike!

Please join us on Saturday, June 30 for a hike around Cherryville. We will start our hike at the C. Grier Beam Truck Museum at 9:00 am (111 North Mountain Street). We will tour the museum then hike to the Cherryville History Museum on Main Street. Then we will hike to the Cherryville Train Depot. To complete our hike, we will hike to the Cherryville Heritage Park (104 S Jacob St) where we will have an icy treat. You will pick your child up at the Heritage Park at 11:00 am. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle with their name on it.

Great campout this weekend at Rostan Cabin at Camp Bud Schiele. Many thanks to Pack 78 Cubmaster, Andrew Harmon and Pack 74 Cubmaster, Sebrena Pearson. I think a great time was had by all!

I just received word from the Council that the Rocket Academy scheduled for this weekend has been postponed due to the forecast. The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 10th, same times, same place.

Betty Ross Park, just a few years ago, was under about 4 feet of water due to a similar storm. For this reason, the staff at BRP decided to close the park this weekend.
Sorry, but we will shoot those rockets!

What a great night at First United Methodist Church tonight. Over 40 Cub Scouts and their parents moving through the halls at the same time almost 20 Boy Scouts were arriving for their meeting! What a sight!

Another great roundup at Beam Intermediate last night. Added a few more Cubs and a couple new Boy Scouts.

Great first meeting with our new Tiger Cubs yesterday! I sure look forward to working with these new guys!

Great Roundup last week. Looking forward to working with all the new Cub Scouts in Pack 78!

I keep getting ads for sunglasses that look like they are coming from the Pack. The pack does not sell sunglasses and I apologize if you are getting them too. This is not us and I can't figure out how to block the senders. Sorry.

Pack 78 adults just a reminder that Re-Charter time is here. I need each Scout to complete part A & B on the BSA health form and return to me with their registration fee. I will try and have some blank forms at our next meeting January 20th. Thank you and I look forward to a great 2013.
Cubmaster Pat

Just found out that two of the victims of the Connecticut shooting were new Tiger Cubs in Pack 170. Please keep these families and all those affected in your thoughts and prayers during this holiday season.

Cub Adults, New pool day in the works...stay tuned for date.

Boy Scout Troop 78 Scoutmaster, Ken Bowen, was named the 2011 Heartland District Scoutmaster of the Year!

The "Go See It" scheduled for Tiger's, Monday at the Cherryville Library will be re-scheduled. This is due to the library closing at 2pm on Mondays. Please meet at the church at 6pm. See you then. Pat Yount, Cubmaster

We added two more Cub Scouts last night from Tryon Elementary. I look forward to these new Cubs joining the group. We are growing!

Pat Yount has agreed to be the Cubmaster for Pack 78 and is doing a phenomenal job! This past Monday was our first meeting and we had over 20 Cub Scouts and their parents in attendance. The Scout room was absolutely PACKED! In fact, there were people standing out in the hall. To play off a quote from one of the SCARIEST movies of all time – Jaws – “I think we’re gonna need a bigger ROOM (he said boat)!”

We opened with a brief explanation of the Cub Scout Sign and the Cub Scout Salute. Then the boys joined in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Cub Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack. We then talked about some of the upcoming events. At this point, I took the boys outside where we enjoyed a pretty heated game of T-Shirt Relay, while Pat talked to the parents and answered questions.

The boys seemed to have a good time! It was not that long ago that our sons stood there for the first time and recited the Cub Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack. I still remember that first night. Boy, they grow up fast.

Thank you all for placing your trust in me and the other Leaders of Troop 78. I think we are the talk of the Council and surely the envy of other troops in the area. Who would have thought that just a year and a half ago, when I dreamed of Troop 78, that today we would have almost 25 Boy Scouts and over 20 Cub Scouts on the roster! Surely not me.

Thank you and God Bless!

Ken Bowen

Great meeting last night. The room was packed with over 20 new Cub Scouts and their parents. We even had people standing out in the hall. I think we're going to need a bigger room!

Getting ready for all the new Scouts. We will meet Monday night starting at 6:00 pm. So far, we have 20 new Cub Scouts and have one more Roundup to go. Things are going great!
