Thank you all for the tremendous interest in my Dads story and my journey for him.
Please be sure to look through the page as it contains all the pictures, narratives, videos and additional details and information.
I am overwhelmed at the response and the kind words so many have sent back to me.
As that rescued Fighter Pilot told me, Immortality is in the stories we will tell of them over and over again. Never forgotten.”

Today is March 16th 2023 and this is my last entry to complete this very special journey.
For the last several years I have wanted to put all the documentation of pictures, videos, narratives and related information of Dad's story as a Fighter Pilot especially flying combat missions over North Vietnam, South Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos during his year tour at Danang Air Base with the 366th Gunfighters.
It is fitting that today is his birthday and I can say "Mission Accomplished." What a life changing experience the journey certainly was, and it will always be the highlight of my life.

As I said at the dedication ceremony back in 2006....
This one is for you Dad...all the way! I love and miss you Buddy and you will always be with me every day!

Fly On...
Your Son,
Troy

Channel 13 News picked up Dad's story from the local newspaper and I met with Mike Gooding, WVEC's Military Reporter, three days before Mom, Helene, Jennifer, Nicole and I headed to the airport to travel to Tyler, Texas for the dedication ceremony.

March 2007 Mt. Home AFB, Idaho. we were invited by Lt. Col. Prichard to a Wild Boar mini reunion. We all were treated like family and saw those awesome F-15 Eagles up close and personal. Great memories by some very special people I will never forget. This picture was taken outside the Officers Club at Happy Hour. This sign is the exact same one that was outside the Officers Club at Danang in 1968-1969 when Dad was there.

Mom receiving Dad's Distinguished Flying Cross for Valor for his rescue support mission from Lt. Col. Jeff Prichard. Jeff was the then 390th Boar Fighter Squadron Commander at Mt. Home Air Force Base in Idaho. I had contacted Jeff about my mission and he readily jumped on board to help out and be there to present Mom Dad's medal. He brought along an Airman who was studying to get his degree to then become a Fighter Pilot. History is so very important to learn.....understand...and never forget.

F-4D 66-8812 prior to restoration arriving at Historic Aviation Memorial Museum in Tyler, Texas 2005. The dedicated museum volunteers spent hundreds of hours sanding the worn six coats of paint down to the bare metal preparing her for future painting. All in the hot Texas sun. The Restoration Team did an outstanding job!!!

WILLIAM A. "Bill" CURNUTTE, born March 16, 1924 in Portsmouth, Ohio. Family moved to Portsmouth, VA in 39. Graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth, VA in June 1941. Enlisted in Aviation Cadet Program in June 1942 and entered active duty in January 1943. Graduated from Pilot Training with the Class of 43-K at Moore Field, Texas on December 5, 1943. Completed P-47 training at Dale Mabry Field, Tallahassee, Florida in April 1944.

Overseas assignment was to Fourteenth Air Force, 81st Fighter Group, 93rd Fighter Squadron. Spent approximately 20 months in the CBl Theater. Approximately half of the tour was spent in China in the Chengtu area including a couple of months at Ankang with the 91 st Fighter Squadron and the other half at Gushkara, India with the 93rd Fighter Squadron which operated an Operational Training Unit.

A highlight of the China days would have to include a strafing run over Hankow Airdrome during which a severe hit was taken in the engine area but he managed to make it back to Ankang safely. A definite tribute to the ruggedness of the "Jug."

Departed Gushkara, India in October 1945 enroute to the U.S. arriving in New York on December 21,1945.

Helene and I along with Mom, Jennifer and Nicole were so proud to be there for Dad. I could feel his presence right there with us. So many emotions to deal with while standing giving my speech but I could feel his presence right there with me on my wing once again. It also helped that I had his very first set of wings in my pocket with me.
