The Rotary Club of Churchland
The Rotary Club of Churchland is a service organization of business professionals who have come together to enhance the lives of others through service. By helping others in a positive fashion Rotarians enhance their own lives as well. Service projects are done on the community, district, state, national, and international levels. The Rotary Club of Churchland was chartered on January 11, 1985 and is a member of Rotary International. We are one of over 27,000 clubs worldwide with membership exceeding one and one-half million men and women committed to helping others.

Ben Wiggins was a charter member of the Churchland Rotary Club. Every Christmas since the club was formed in 1985 Ben would chair the Christmas Fund with support from his fellow Rotarians, his dental staff, and friends. The happy dollars and fun fines we collected at weekly meetings along with individual donations were used to support the Christmas Fund. These funds were used to buy presents and food for families in need during the Christmas season. During the last several years Ben and the club partnered with Edmarc to provide presents and food for families in need. Established in 1978, Edmarc Hospice for Children located in downtown Portsmouth, VA was the first hospice in the nation designed specifically for children. For several years we had toys donated by Toys for Tots thanks to former Rotarian John Woleben. Around a week or two before Christmas Ben would gather his staff and Churchland Rotarians to meet at the Food Lion in Bennetts Creek to purchase groceries for families.
Ben passed away earlier this year. A few weeks after his passing the Churchland Rotary Club changed the name of the Christmas Fund to the Ben Wiggins Christmas Fund making the commitment to continue Ben’s support of families in need during the Christmas season. Today Churchland Rotarians met at the Bennetts Creek Food Lion to purchase groceries for seven families and delivered the food to Edmarc where the staff will deliver the food to families. Presents were delivered to Edmarc last week.
Thank you Ben for your legacy as we continue to make a difference for families during the Christmas season.
