Chesapeake Police Department Social Media Comment Policy

The purpose of all City of Chesapeake social media pages is to provide information to the public.

Mission Statement: In partnership with the community and other City agencies, promote safety within the City through the delivery of fair, impartial, and professional police services. The City of Chesapeake encourages comments and sharing of information directly related to the topics in posts. In order to serve the public interests of decorum and order, the following types of comments will be remo

ved from all of the City’s social media pages:

Off topic from the associated post;

Comments or content that promote, foster, or perpetuate discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, genetics, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or intellectual disability or sexual orientation;

Spam or advertisements; and links to other Pages or websites, except for other City of Chesapeake social media pages;

Promote illegal activity;

Promote or oppose a political candidate, political organization or ballot initiative;

Personal attacks against one or more named individuals;

Personal, medical, or financial information that would jeopardize the safety or privacy of any person;

Violent, obscene or profane comments or content;

Repeated identical comments;

Threaten any person or organization;

Information that may compromise the safety, security or proceedings of public systems or any criminal or civil investigations. To manage City staff resources (your tax dollars), comments and postings are periodically monitored during regular business hours. The City’s social media pages are not monitored for Virginia Freedom of Information Act requests. Requests to inspect or copy public records under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act must be made to the appropriate FOIA Officer. The City’s social media pages are not monitored for service requests. To create an official service request, call the Chesapeake Customer Contact Center at 757-382-2489 or visit www.cityofchesapeake.net/requests. The comments expressed on the City of Chesapeake’s social media pages do not reflect the opinions and position of the City of Chesapeake, Chesapeake City Council, or its officers and employees. Please note that social media platforms may remove comments that violate those individual platforms’ Community Standards or Terms of Service. / 26-58197: On May 5, 2026, at approximately 3:11 p.m., the pictured suspect entered a grocery store in the 2000 block of Campostella Rd. and concealed food items in his clothing before leaving the business without paying. The suspect was seen wearing a white T-shirt, camo bucket hat, reflective jacket, and cargo pants.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP℠, (1-888-562-5887). Submit a tip online at P3TIPS.COM, or on their smartphone on the P3TIPS APP. Callers are never asked to give their names or are required to testify in court. If a caller’s tip leads to an arrest, the recovery of drugs, or stolen property, they could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1500.

NEWS RELEASE UPDATE

The landscaper pronounced dead at the scene of yesterday's vehicle accident has been identified as 60-year-old Guadalupe Rivera of Suffolk, Va.

News Release:

On May 29, 2026, at approximately 9:49 a.m., Chesapeake Police officers responded to the 400 block of Johnstown Road for a serious motor vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates a black sedan was traveling southbound on Johnstown Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with a red SUV that was turning onto Johnstown Road from Britwell Drive.

The collision caused the black sedan to lose control, leave the roadway, and strike a landscaper who was working in the area.

The landscaper was pronounced deceased at the scene. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Additional information, including the identity of the deceased, will be released pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

26-800688: The pictured suspect entered a sporting goods store in the 1500 block of Sentinel Drive on May 18, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m. The suspect selected several clothing items and ran out of the store without paying. The suspect was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, black jeans, and beige Jordan 4 shoes.

UPDATE: Case Solved.

26-63504: On May 16, 2026, between 12:45 p.m. and 1:08 p.m., the pictured suspect entered a store in the 1500 block of Sentinel Drive. The suspect selected various merchandise items and left without paying. The suspect is described as a white female wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, black leggings ripped in the front, and a blue flannel shirt tied around her waist.
