Quit creating timelines for MY kids.
Because I’m tired of milestones being fair game for everyone to discuss.
I constantly hear from other moms about what I SHOULD BE DOING,
when I SHOULD potty train,
break bad sleep habits etc.
They’re SO concerned.
And they think it’s helpful.
But IT’s NOT!
If one of my kids is behind in speech or a milestone that can indicate an intervention needed, that’s one thing.
But at the same time, assume I’m working on it. It can be frustrating for a parent who is already concerned to have EVERYONE ask about it.
And it also feels a bit competitive and more like judgment at times than trying to "help."
But in all the minutia, my kids will create their own milestones. Yes, I'll push them along at certain points, but I just want them to BE KIDS as long as possible.
And if a bottle of milk, stuffy, Wubbanub, or crawling into my bed after a bad dream makes them feel safe, I’m okay to give in.
Because at the end of the day, they’re only kids once, so I want to let them enjoy their childhoods,
instead of constantly working on SOMETHING.
Each child is unique, and they’ll get there when they’re ready.
So, unless you’re a concerned doctor,
quit creating timelines for MY kids.
I promise I’m on top of it.
