Travis Hackworth for Senate
Today, Travis Hackworth claimed a 76% win in the Special Election to replace the late Senator Ben Chafin in the 38th District of the Virginia State Senate.
Travis stated, “It is the honor of my life to serve our region in the Virginia Senate. While the last few weeks have been amazing and humbling as I have connected with voters around the district, now the work begins. I am ready to get started bringing new business to Southwest Virginia, completing the Coalfields Expressway, opening new Senate offices in Norton, Richlands, and Pulaski, expanding broadband in our rural communities, standing with our law enforcement, and protecting our rights in Richmond.”
Thank you to everyone who came out today to vote and ensure that Southwest Virginia has strong, conservative representation for the future!

GOP hammers Democrats over Iowa Democrat's election challenge
Republicans are hammering Democrats for what they say is hypocrisy in their efforts to challenge Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks’s (R-Iowa) victory over Democrat Rita Hart in the state’s 2nd Congressional District.

With her narrow majority, the Speaker could pull a trick

Democratic refusal to open schools is on the ballot in Virginia and New Jersey in 2021
President Biden claimed he would unite the country, turn down the temperature, and forge bipartisan consensus, but he has spent his first month in office unilaterally killing jobs through executive orders and trying to pass a partisan stimulus package that has little to do with defeating COVID-19......

Cuomo’s refusal to resign evokes comparisons to Northam’s resistance after yearbook photo scandal
The continued refusal by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign in the face of mounting scandals is drawing comparisons to Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, who wouldn't resign in 2019 despite calls from members of his own party to step down over a scandal of his own.

H.R. 1 would overrule election practices already tailored to thousands of localities across the country, including:
o requiring same day registration without integrity measures,
o undermining voter ID at the polls and prohibiting it in absentee voting,
o mandating that states allow ballot harvesting, and
o permanently locking in nationwide no-excuse mail-in ballot voting while lengthening post-election uncertainty.
This bill also floods congressional campaigns with taxpayer dollars by creating a 6:1 match of small dollar donations to congressional campaigns. H.R. 1 would also establishes a voucher pilot program giving eligible voters $25, also subject to the 6:1 match, to donate to the candidate of their choice. This means your hard-earned dollars can be used to pay for attack ads, phone calls, and ads on social media for candidates you do not support.
Finally, H.R. 1 places unprecedented limitations on political speech, weaponizing the FEC by changing the evenly divided 6-member body into a 5-member panel chaired by an appointee of the President. This new, partisan FEC would then have greater latitude to determine what speech is “campaign related."
On this day in 1732, President George Washington was born! Happy Birthday to one of America’s greatest leaders! 🇺🇸
Senator Jen Kiggans
Remember my election accuracy bill (SB1422) removing deceased people from the voter roll at weekly intervals (passed out of the Senate last week on a bipartisan vote of 34Y-5N)? It was KILLED today in the House committee on a party line with ALL Democrats voting against it (see voting roll below) with no specific reason given and despite Voter Registrars speaking in support of the bill. Not sure why anyone would vote against accurate voter lists but the Democratic Party needs to be held accountable for not supporting election integrity. Remember this in November...! #ElectionIntegrityMatters #AccurateVoterListsMatter #VOTE2021 #TimeToGetTheHouseBack!

Delegate Todd Gilbert
Our Republican team heard you loud and clear after November. We've introduced a number of bills that would help restore confidence in our elections. Unfortunately, Democrats have killed most of them in subcommittees.
We’re still fighting for the surviving legislation, and if we can't get it done this year, we'll try again next year, until we get it done. I've put some of the highlights in the (very long) post below.
Give registrars adequate time to verify voter eligibility.
Killed in Committee
Same day registration allows no time for registrars to do the required due diligence to ensure that a voter’s previous registration is cancelled and that they have not cast a ballot in another state or locality.
Video recording of every place where absentee ballots are counted.
The best disinfectant is sunshine. The process should be open to as many people as possible, so we should record the counting of absentee ballots.
Require signatures on ballot security envelopes to match the signatures of those on the absentee ballot application.
Killed in Committee
Signatures on absentee applications will be recorded and matched against those on the security envelope. Those whose signatures are questionable will be allowed a period in which to “cure” their ballot like any other provisional ballot -- by showing ID at the registrar’s office and signing a statement claiming the ballot (which is then matched against the previous signatures).
Protect Poll Observers
Killed in Committee
Create a class 3 misdemeanor for anyone blocking or otherwise illegally interfering with a duly-authorized party observer at a polling place, registrar's office, or other such places as observers are legally allowed to witness proceedings.
Count absentee ballots in their proper precinct, and tabulate ABs early.
If absentee ballots are counted into the precincts where they would have otherwise been cast, we won’t have massive “vote dumps” at the end of the night as happened in 2020. The
Require that all guidance from the State Board of Elections and Staff be posted to the Internet within 24 hours of its issuance. Killed in Committee
Registrars were bombarded with ‘guidance,’ often conflicting guidance, throughout the 2020 Election Cycle. This legislation would not only require that this guidance be made public, but also the code section from which the guidance is drawn. This will prevent a situation like those in Pennsylvania where changes to election rules were made without public notice. If the rules change, people should know.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and recommit ourselves to his vision of a world where all are judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. #MLKDay2021

Congratulations for Chesapeake’s Leaders for leading Chesapeake through an unprecedented time.
Congressman Ben Cline
Today the United States celebrates National Religious Freedom Day, which commemorates the Virginia General Assembly's adoption of Thomas Jefferson's historic Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom on January 16, 1786. This doctrine disestablished the Church of England in the Colony and proclaimed in part, "that no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief, but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of Religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge or affect their civil capacities." This statute became the basis of the United States Constitution's First Amendment, which bars the government from making any law hindering the American people's right to freely practice their religion.
Thank you to Chesapeake Senator John Cosgrove and Delegate Kirk Cox for the conservative response to Gov. Northam's State of the Commonwealth Address.
Tonight, I joined Senator Cosgrove in giving the official Republican perspective of the Governor’s State of the Commonwealth.
Here is the actual state of the Commonwealth under Governor Northam and Democratic control:
❌ abysmal vaccine distribution
❌ delayed unemployment benefits
❌ $2 billion in tax increases
❌ raised household energy bills
❌ shuttered small businesses
❌ failed K-12 students
In summary: Governor Northam and Democrats in Richmond have failed Virginians at every turn.
It’s time we restore trusted conservative leadership to VA.

Unfortunately, death threats and harassment against conservatives are nothing new. However, it should never be tolerated. America should be a place where we can disagree peaceably.
The internet has taken aim at a Chesapeake doughnut shop owner who publicly supported President Trump a day before the Capitol riot.
The storming of the Capitol today was an un-American act, and those who participated and those responsible for inciting the life-threatening violence should be held accountable. I served to support and defend the Constitution. This was a shameful, criminal act by those responsible, not a noble one.
