I wanted to take a moment to share an update on Bueno with everyone who has been checking in, sending messages, and keeping him in their thoughts.

Bueno is still fighting hard. We are navigating a very complex and serious medical situation, and right now our focus is keeping him comfortable, stable, and supported while we see how he responds to treatment. He has an aortic thromboembolism (a serious clotting condition) along with a couple of other significant medical issues that must be addressed first before surgery can even be attempted. Because of this, everything has shifted to stabilization and medical management before we can revisit the surgical plan.

There are still a lot of unknowns, and that is one of the hardest parts of this journey.

Some days feel hopeful. Some days feel heavy. But through it all, Bueno continues to show the heart and determination that made him the incredible Human Remains Detection K9 and partner that so many know and respect.

I cannot put into words how grateful I am for the love, prayers, shares, donations, and quiet support behind the scenes. Every single message and gesture means more than you know.

Please keep Bueno in your thoughts as we take this one step at a time. He is deeply loved, fiercely protected, and never alone in this fight. đź’™

Update on Bueno

Bueno has officially started the next phase of his medical journey. He is currently at Bridger Veterinary Specialists in Bozeman, Montana, where the team is conducting extensive diagnostic testing, including MRI and additional evaluations.

Before surgery can safely move forward, they need to rule out several underlying or complicating factors. While this means more testing up front, it is the most responsible and medically sound path to ensure the best possible outcome for him.

Just to begin this process, a $7,000 deposit was required for diagnostics alone. Surgery is very much in the near future, and these steps are critical in determining the exact surgical plan and long-term prognosis.

This is not an easy road, but it is forward motion—and it would not be possible without the incredible support, generosity, and encouragement from so many of you. Every message, share, donation, and kind word truly matters more than I can express.

We still have a long way to go, but we are finally moving toward answers and solutions. I will continue to share updates as we learn more.

From the bottom of my heart—thank you for standing with Bueno.

K9 BUENO: 2025 ANIMAL HERO OF THE YEAR — A TESTAMENT TO RESCUE & RECOVERY PARTNERSHIPS

K9 Bueno, a dedicated member of the National Center for Missing & Endangered, Inc. (HRD K9 Team), has proven to be a fearless partner in disaster response and a steadfast advocate for families seeking closure. Honored as the 2025 Animal Hero by the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, Bueno has supported missions across multiple states, including post-Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in 2024–2025, often alongside his handler Brandy.

In the face of large-scale disasters, Bueno and Brandy have helped families find closure by locating human remains and assisting ongoing follow-up cases. The National Center for Missing & Endangered, Inc. proudly celebrates Bueno’s achievements and his unwavering commitment to every mission.

Join us in congratulating K9 Bueno on being named the 2025 Animal Hero of the Year. If you’d like to support our mission and the families we serve, consider sharing this post.

From Michel Galliot, ASCTI Instructor.

Join me to congratulate our four new ASCTI , members. They have taken the LEO handler class and passed their field certification for HRD.

It was a great pleasure for me to work with them and I am looking forward to continue their education towards higher goals.
