Exactly 3 years ago today I submitted Mt. Kilimanjaro for the Special Olympics of Connecticut (SOCT).

Today, I am announcing my next crazy thing to help raise money for SOCT!

It's called the 4x4x48 challenge. It is part of David Goggins' personal challenge he does every first weekend of March. He invites everyone to do this in the name of a charity of their choice.... obviously you know my choice.

Camped at the Cheshire High School track, I will run/ walk 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. I will start Friday, March 3rd at 8 pm and end Sunday, March 5th at 8 pm.

I am inviting friends, family, and others around town to run with me for the final leg on March 5th at 4:00 PM. Please let me know if you can make it!!

Please support SOCT by donating here....

So, check it out. This here is your friendly neighborhood bear. His favorite time of day seems to be arrival and dismissal time for the schools.

Generally, most black bears really don't like you (no offence). In fact they would rather stay away. At times they may become accustomed to human presence but still would rather not bother with you or attempt to harm you.

That being said, if you do happen to encounter a bear and you feel like you are in an uncomfortable position, usually making a lot of noise will get them moving.

Do not approach. Do not feed. Do not replace the bird seed in your feeder in hopes that they might return. They are beautiful animals, yes, and it is tempting to get close and get a picture. Don’t do it. Use my picture instead.

If the bear is becoming a nuisance then you can certainly call the Cheshire Police Department. We will not come out and shoot a bear because he's eating your bird seed. Sorry, not sorry. We will probably just scare them away.

or 911 if its an emergency

Love,

Your friendly neighborhood SROs

This question was posed to Kindergarten students across the district:

Do police officers get scared?

100% of the kids answer with a unified and loud, NO!

What if I told you... we do.

The answer is far less simple than that though. Everyone has a choice to do something about their fear. They can either run, hide, or face it. Bravery is something that is learned and most of us need to be encouraged to learn it. Surround yourself with people who are kind (and be a person whonis kind) in order to help foster this growth.

That is our kindergarten lesson of the day. I am sure it's good for you too.

Happy Second Day of school! We would have posted yesterday but right as we were going to take the photos, Winnie the Pooh decided to march straight through Dodd Middle School dismissal.... we got a little sidetracked! (No one including the bear got hurt.)

Also yah or nay on Officer Dave's new "beard"? Fitting that he works in the middle school with how much it doesn't grow on the sides? or do you think it looks OK?

CT Law Education - Part 1

(I guess sidewalk chalk doesn’t count in this context. You're off the hook Ofc. Gretchen... for now)

The CT Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will be coming through town again this year, featuring your Cheshire Police Officers!
Our Torch Run Team is still looking for local businesses that would like to sponsor us and help us achieve our fundraising goal. The CPD has held a top 10 fundraising spot in CT for many years and we couldn't have done it without the support of the community!
Please consider a sponsorship by purchasing an Adopt-A-Mile or Adopt-A-Town sign, which will be placed along the running route, Route 10 from the Hamden town line to the Southington town line.
Contact Officer Webber or Officer Ovesny at 203-271-5500 for sponsorship information...or drop a message (or DM) below and we will contact you.
The CPD thanks you in advance for your support!
Look out for us running during the morning of June 2nd and cheer us on as we run for the Special Olympics of CT!!

This is a great opportunity for graduating high school senior girls to learn self defense before heading off to college this fall! Please see Officer Gretchen at CHS for more information!

The Cheshire Police Department will be hosting another RAD self defense class for women ages 16 and over, beginning April 25th, 2022. We have been teaching this class to women in our community for over 13 years! We look forward to helping more women become more confident and give them the sense of empowerment to defend themselves.

Please see the attached flyer for more details and information on how to register!

The School Resource Officer is a unique position. We have one foot in the door of the Cheshire Police Department and the other in the Cheshire Public Schools. This allows us to see and learn more about the town in one year than most people will discover in a lifetime. We can choose to dwell on the the bad, the tragic, and the heartbreak, or we can choose to see the good. We choose to see the good.

Considering everything that has gone into making the first day of school a success (and beyond), I think it is safe to say that the town of Cheshire had a win today. Great work to all the CPS staff and the CPD officers who always have your and each other's backs.

Here's to a "happy new year" and a very bright future.

Remember, what's wrong is always available... but so is what's right.
