‼️ Additional storms are ahead and some of them may be strong late this evening.

For many of us, a good part of the day may stay dry before things begin to ramp up late. We’ll likely start with clouds and periods of drizzle before spotty storms develop this afternoon.

Then between roughly 7–9 PM and beyond, expect a better chance for heavier rain and thunderstorms.

My main concern will be flooding. With tropical moisture in place, any storm will be capable of very heavy downpours along with thunder and lightning.

Bottom line:
🌦️ Most of the day: dry for many
⛈️ Afternoon: isolated to scattered storms
🌧️ Late evening: heavier rain & storms move

The burn ban is still in place across South Carolina.
Dry conditions, gusty winds, and low humidity continue to fuel a high wildfire risk statewide. The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a State Forester’s Burning Ban until further notice.
This ban means no outdoor burning in unincorporated areas. That includes yard debris, prescribed burns, campfires, bonfires, and any recreational fires.

AIR QUALITY ALERT ISSUED FOR SOUTH CAROLINA UPSTATE THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT ⚠️

UPSTATE, SC

An air quality alert is in effect across the Upstate region of South Carolina through Thursday night, as smoke from wildfires in neighboring Georgia continues to impact the area.

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has declared a Code Orange Action Day for both fine particulate pollution and ground-level ozone. The alert for fine particulates remains in effect until midnight Thursday, while the ozone alert is active from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Officials say southerly winds circulating around a high-pressure system off the Southeast coast are pushing smoke from wildfires in southern Georgia into South Carolina. As calmer and more stable atmospheric conditions develop overnight, the smoke is expected to spread further and become more noticeable across the Upstate.

The lingering smoke is also expected to contribute to increased ozone levels on Thursday, potentially leading to unhealthy air quality conditions for sensitive groups.

A Code Orange designation means that air pollution concentrations may be unhealthy for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma, as well as children, older adults, and those who are active outdoors.

Health officials recommend limiting time spent outside, especially for those in sensitive groups. Residents are encouraged to move activities indoors when possible, keep windows and doors closed, and run air conditioning systems on recirculate mode with clean filters to reduce indoor exposure to smoke and fine particles.

Authorities will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
