Road conditions in the Chesnee area are becoming very poor due to today’s winter weather. Snow and ice are causing vehicles to lose traction, and we are already seeing cars slide on multiple roads.
Drivers are advised to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
If you must drive, reduce speed, increase following distance, and use extreme caution.
We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed. Stay safe.

D2 Families,
Throughout the day, we have been conducting a thorough inspection of our community’s roads. While our main roads are clearing up, our backroads, many of which see very little sunlight, are still littered with patches of ice. This makes for a potentially dangerous situation for our buses and especially for our student drivers.
Because of this, Thursday, January 29 will be an e-Learning Day
Your students’ schools will be in touch regarding assignments.
This also means that all after-school activities and sports are cancelled for Thursday.
We thank you for your patience as we navigate the lingering impact of this past weekend’s weather together.

I’ve declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the winter storm system expected to impact the state beginning Saturday and continuing through the weekend, possibly into Monday.

Preparations are already underway by state agencies, and this State of Emergency ensures Team South Carolina is ready to respond and support communities as conditions develop.

Update at 4:30pm. All fire units have cleared the scene. Duke Energy will remain on scene until power is restored to the area.

Updated at 3:50pm. At the bottom of the post we have added a picture from Duke Energy of the power outages affected by this fire.

At this time all of our units are assisting Cooley Springs FD, multiple departments, and SC Forestry on Hwy 11. The wind is causing trees and power lines to come down and which is starting fires. With the cold weather coming in, and the high winds please prepare for possible power outages. Listening to the radio, 911 has a calls coming in all over Spartanburg County with power lines down. Cherokee and Union County departments are experiencing the same calls too at this time.

As the tropical disturbance approaches our coast, I am issuing a State of Emergency to ensure Team South Carolina is able to access and deploy the resources and personnel needed to prepare for and respond to this storm. While the storm's arrival, speed, and intensity remain hard to predict, we do know that it will bring significant wind, heavy rainfall, and flooding across the ENTIRE state of South Carolina. We have seen this before. Now is the time to start paying attention to forecasts, updates, and alerts from official sources and begin making preparations.
