The Volunteers were out in the Borough this afternoon visually inspecting hydrants, and clearing them from packed snow and Ice.

You’ll notice we also place a marker on each hydrant in town, for this exact reason. Helping us identify when they get plowed in.

Adopt a hydrant in your neighborhood, and take 5 minutes to clear the area around them. Seconds count in a fire, and having clear access to a fire hydrant can make all the difference.

Congratulations to firefighters; Mike Balot, Timmy Iannucci, and Mike Martin who completed the 40 hour course to become certified vehicle rescue technicians.

They learned the proper way to stabilize vehicles involved in a crash, and if necessary how remove the doors, roof, and dash to create a path to remove patients.

Thursday night training, the volunteers were out working on Vehicle Rescue Scenarios. Crews had to stabilize the vehicles with limited access, and work to remove the roof’s of both vehicles. We use hydraulic rescue tools to get the job done, combined with our Paratech Struts for stabilization.

Interested in learning more, stop by on a Thursday night and watch us train.

The Volunteers spent some time before recess providing fire prevention education at the local school. Kids learned some fire prevention basics, sat in the fire engine, and even got to sq**rt the hose.

Maybe there is a future volunteer in the mix.

Tonight the crews utilized our training trailer to practice entanglement scenarios. Sometimes when operating interior at fires, ceilings could collapse, or firefighters may be forced to breach interior walls. These lead to wires, cables, and many other hazards that could potentially tie up firefighters.

We routinely practice severe scenarios to purposely put our members in tricky scenarios. The idea is to work through the training and gain more confidence. The props you see were made by our members based off of scenarios we’ve been through.
