Join Historic Yellow Springs for the second lecture in our Fall 2026 History Speaker Series with Professor Charles Hardy!

Professor Hardy will discuss his new book, A Mother for America: How Betsy Ross Became the Most Famous Woman in American History. He’ll explore how Betsy Ross, a Philadelphia Quaker who was largely unknown beyond her family before 1870, became a powerful symbol of American patriotism and national identity.

From family stories and schoolbooks to advertising, politics, and the Betsy Ross House, Hardy examines how historical stories are created, promoted, challenged, and ultimately become part of our understanding of the past.
