As part of the 28th Annual Jazz at the Springs celebration and America’s 250th anniversary, this special community event weaves together live jazz, history, and a public reading and discussion of the Declaration of Independence.

Using special Sakura Identi-Pen® for crisp, permanent line work, students build a layered composition that balances pattern, texture, and flow. Did you know that the ruins of Washington Hall at Historic Yellow Springs were the only purpose-built hospital commissioned by the Continental Congress and once served as headquarters of the Revolutionary War’s medical department?

Join us for a brief look at the powerful history of the Historic Yellow Springs hospital ruins before sketching the existing foundation and surrounding medicinal garden. Students will then incorporate a “ghost image,” or translucent overlay, of the original structure, exploring perspective and architectural drawing techniques while visually reconstructing history.
