The West Vincent Police Department joins our brothers and sisters at the Central Berks Regional Police Department in mourning the loss of Officer Kristen Yeager, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty while responding to a call for service on May 29, 2026.

Officer Yeager dedicated her life to serving and protecting others with courage, kindness, and professionalism. We ask our community to keep her family, including young children, friends, the Central Berks Regional Police Department, and the entire law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

🦌 FAWN SEASON IS HERE 🦌

This time of year, you may come across a young deer (fawn) lying alone in your yard, near a trail, or along the edge of the woods. While it may look abandoned, this behavior is completely normal.

Mother deer will often leave their fawns hidden for long periods of time while they search for food. Fawns stay very still, quiet, and tucked away to avoid attracting predators. Mom is usually nearby and will return — often at dawn or dusk — once the area is clear and quiet.

If you come across a fawn:

• Keep your distance
• Keep children and pets away from the area
• Leave the fawn exactly where it is
• Monitor from a distance only if you are concerned

What NOT to do:

• DO NOT touch or move the fawn
• DO NOT feed it or give it water
• DO NOT assume it is abandoned just because it is alone
• DO NOT take it home or transport it anywhere

A fawn that is quietly lying down with no visible injuries is usually behaving exactly as it should. However, if the fawn appears injured, is wandering and crying continuously for hours, has obvious signs of illness, or you find a deceased doe nearby, contact the Pennsylvania Game Commission for guidance.

📞 Pennsylvania Game Commission Southeast Region Office: (610) 926-3136

As always, if there is an immediate public safety concern or the animal is creating a hazardous situation, please contact 911.

Officer Fritz traded in patrol duty for teacher duty on May 12th at Career Day at French Creek Elementary School!

Students got an inside look at what police officers do every day, from helping keep the community safe to responding to emergencies and assisting residents. Officer Fritz also gave the kids a tour of his police vehicle, showed them some of the equipment officers use on the job, and answered lots of great questions!

A couple lucky students even got to “test out” the handcuffs… and we’re hoping that’s the first and only time they ever wear them! 😄

Thank you to the students and staff at French Creek Elementary School for welcoming us and making Career Day so much fun! We may have even inspired a few future officers along the way! 👮‍♂️👮

Last Saturday, April 25th, Chief Getz and Officer Fields had an incredible time at our Trout Rodeo, and the photos say it all—big smiles, great catches, and even better memories. From early morning casts to the final weigh-ins, it was awesome to see so many members of our community out enjoying the day together.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to fish, cheer, and spend time with us. Events like this remind us how special our community truly is.

We’re already looking forward to the next one… so start practicing those casting skills! 🐟

🚨🐻 Bear with us! 🐻🚨

West Vincent Township has received reports of a black bear roaming through the area. While black bears are generally not aggressive and usually want nothing to do with people, a few extra precautions can help keep both residents and our furry traveler safe.

Helpful Tips:

• Bring in or temporarily remove bird feeders
• Keep pet food indoors
• Secure garbage cans and place them at the road the morning of pickup, not the night before
• Clean grills and outdoor cooking areas
• Keep a close eye on pets, especially during dawn and dusk
• Give the bear plenty of space if spotted

Remember: This bear is likely just passing through in search of snacks and a shortcut. Let’s not make your backyard the local buffet.

If you see the bear, have video footage, or witness behavior that causes concern, please call 911 immediately so officers can monitor the situation and notify the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Thank you for helping keep West Vincent Township safe—for residents and wildlife alike.
