We offer our sincere condolences to the family, friends and fellow Police Officers of Officer Shane Seiber of the Philadelphia Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty over the weekend. We are also keeping his fellow officer, who was also shot multiple times, in our thoughts.

Chester County Department of Facilities will close County Bridge 134, North Reeds Road over East Branch Brandywine Creek, beginning Monday, October 12, 2026, for emergency repairs. The closure is expected to last approximately three weeks. A detour route will be in place.

Background

Bridge 134 is well past its expected service life. The structure is planned for replacement, and it has needed close monitoring and maintenance to stay in service until then. Emergency repairs were completed in July 2026. Since then, routine inspections have found further deterioration, and the bridge's age makes it especially sensitive to loads above the posted 3-ton limit. These conditions now require prompt attention.

What the repairs will do

These emergency repairs will keep the bridge safe for commuters and the traveling public until it is replaced. The 3-ton weight limit will remain in place after the repairs are completed. Replacement is currently expected to begin in late 2028 or early 2029, and the new bridge will be designed to carry legal loads.

Enforcement

Special thanks to Upper Uwchlan Township Police Department for its continued patrol and enforcement of the weight limit at Bridge 134. These efforts help protect the bridge and the public. Motorists and commercial operators are asked to observe the posted limit and use an alternate route. Compliance helps the repairs last until the new bridge is built.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

UUPD is proud to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which begins today, October 1. To help raise awareness, UUPD has installed special markings on one of our patrol cars.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, "1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. This year, approximately 382,640 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer—including 321,910 with invasive breast cancer and 60,730 with non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. Chances are, you know at least one person who has been personally affected by breast cancer."

Early detection and treatment are very important to good outcomes with this difficult disease.

No tax dollars were used to update the markings on the patrol car. Traffic Safety Alert!

On Sunday, September 20, the annual Marshman Triathlon will be taking place in Marsh Creek State Park and surrounding roads. The triathlon consists of a swim, bike race, and a 5k run. The swim and the run are entirely within Marsh Creek State Park, the bike race takes place on the public roads. The bike race, which is about 12.5 miles long, loops around the park, and uses Park Road, Moore Road, Dorlans Mill Road, Creek Road/Rt. 282, Marshall Road, and Little Conestoga Road. Bicycles can be expected on these roads from around 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Please use caution around the bicycles, and pass with care. It’s a very brief time they will be using the road, and we want to help keep everyone safe. If you’re able, please consider coming out and cheering on the racers!

Today, we join all Americans and people around the world in remembering and commemorating the tragedy of the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks in New York, The Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. We honor the memories of all the victims and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.

We also think of the two members of UUPD who responded to Ground Zero that day, along with other Chester County responders in response to a request from NYPD, and spent 24 hours searching for victims.

We will never forget!
