A sincere THANK YOU to all the people who dropped off items for Coventry Food Pantry! We made a delivery to the pantry today (hence why OUR shelves are bare). I asked how the Back-To-School collection was going. The items they are still in need of are 2"-binders, notecards, and post-it notes. If you have these items and can donate, we will be making another run to the food pantry towards the end of next week.

Also, please continue donating food items. As per their website:
"The Coventry Food Pantry relies heavily on donations from the local community to supplement the state funded programs. About half the food and supplies that clients receive come directly from people like you through food and monetary donations. The Pantry is in constant need of the following items:
- Jelly (Plastic container preferred)
- Peanut Butter
- Tuna
- Canned Meats
- Canned Fruit
- Cereal and Oatmeal
- Pasta Sauce
- Pasta
- Rice and Side Dishes
- Cleaning Supplies
- Paper Products
- Personal Supplies (soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent)
- Diapers and Wipes"

Thank you for all of your help! The Township building is open 8:30am to 4:30pm Mondays through Fridays. It will also be open from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on the following meeting nights this month: 8/5, 8/6, 8/7, 8/11, 8/13, 8/18, 8/20, 8/21, 8/26. Enjoy the milder weather!

We'd like to introduce you to a new monthly post on our FB: WVT Pet of the Month!

This handsome boy is Günther. He is 3 years old. His favorite things to do are chasing rabbits (although he has never caught one!) and playing with his new furry sister, Greta, who is 12 weeks old. He dislikes it when attention is not on him.

Submit YOUR pet to be our next Pet of the Month! Your pet could be featured on our social media. We would need a photo and a little blurb about your pet which can be submitted through FB Messenger.

Brothers and residents, Aidan and Matthew Bonner, are taking time out of their college summer vacation to help nature in Opalanie Park. Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) members Barbara Mako and Donna Delany trained them in identifying and removing the common non-native invasives plants that are strangling native plants in the park. Birds, butterflies, and pollinators depend on the native plants for food. When the native plants die and are replaced by plants on Pennsylvania’s Noxious Weeds list, the birds, butterflies, and pollinators have no food.

The West Vincent Nature Tenders is a program of the EAC designed to help plant and maintain natives on West Vincent-owned land. After attending 3 events, volunteers qualify to receive a Nature Tenders hat. The picture shows Aidan and Matthew sporting their new hats.

Many thanks to Aidan and Matthew! To volunteer for a future Nature Tenders event, email the EAC at [email protected].

If you would like to check your yard for non-native invasives, please consult this list of PA noxious plants: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/pda/plants-land-water/plant-industry/noxious-weeds-and-controlled-plants/controlled-plant-noxious-weed-lists

PLEASE HELP!! This is an appeal on behalf of the Coventry Food Pantry. Many thanks to the residents who have contributed to the Food Pantry this summer. They are servicing over 100 families within the OJR school district. And their shelves are BARE (except for soup and canned veggies). I just dropped off your donations, and they need the community’s help.

If you are looking for suggestions on what they need, why not donate:
• Pasta and sauce (or even canned pasta)
• Side dishes
• Baked beans
• Canned fruit
• Canned meats
• Cereal
• Personal hygiene items (toothpaste, shampoo, paper products, feminine products, baby products, etc.)

They are also collecting SCHOOL SUPPLIES for approximately 75 OJR kids (not backpacks, but all other supplies). If you are doing back-to-school shopping, maybe take advantage of those sales and toss in some crayons, glue sticks, notebook paper, notebooks, markers, post-it notes… whatever is on your kids’ lists is what these kids will also need. However, school supplies are needed by the second week in August so the bags can be sorted and delivered to the kids in advance of school.

On a final note, if you have extra of those reusable bags, they would love to take some off of your hands to help with packing up items for pick-up.

Donations can be dropped off at the Township building to the right of the window in our lobby.

THANK YOU for reading, and have a great summer!
