Last year DELCORA hosted the EPWPCOA plant tour and in attendance were over 300 industry professionals including other wastewater utilities and operators, engineering consultants, and manufacturers. This was a fantastic event that highlighted the Western Regional Treatment Plant, the wastewater services that DELCORA provides, and the people that make it all happen.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who spent time with DELCORA at the Chester River Fest earlier this month. We love speaking face to face with our community!

The annual Chester River Fest brought energy, education, culture, and community together at Subaru Park in Chester. Hosted by the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary(PDE), Chester Economic Development Authority(CEDA), and the City of Chester, this year’s event reminded us that protecting our waterways is everybody’s business. From interactive exhibits and environmental education to hands-on activities and community resources, guests of all ages learned simple but powerful ways to care for our rivers, streams, and neighborhoods.

As the largest Senior Activities Center in Delaware County, DELCORA values the relationship that it has established with the Chester Senior Center. Michelle Jackson, Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for DELCORA, visits the Senior Center 2-3 times a year to update the seniors on DELCORA projects and programs. ⁣

This outreach enables neighbors to have immediate access to learn more about DELCORA activities in their communities. Recent topics have included installation of the permanent Odor Control equipment at WRTP, Billing Assistance for DELCORA customers, and the Clean Creeks Program for the Chester and Ridley Creeks that was introduced in February 2026. ⁣

Michelle is able to hear questions and concerns from neighbors directly and act as a contact for any answers that cannot be addressed immediately. Chester Senior Center is headed by Jaimee Nowell Smith and supports 100+ seniors across multiple townships and boroughs within Delaware County.

READ ALL ABOUT IT! DELCORA is excited to partner with a multi faceted group of city and state organizations, including Chester City, the office of Rep. Carol Kazeem, Chester Economic Development Authority (CEDA), and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, to officially open the most recent link of the Chester Creek Trail.

DELCORA and the Chester Shade Tree Commission, with a grant from the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, installed a native habitat rain garden at the base of the trail that will help reduce flooding.

Ann Faulds, of Chester Shade Tree lent hours of planning expertise to ensure that the rain garden will also provide a multi-season, sustainable habitat for pollinators for years to come. This multi use trail will eventually circle the entire city and connect to the broader East Coast Greenway that will provide a safe off-street circuit from Florida to Maine.

A special thanks to the Delaware County Daily Times for covering this story and snapping this photo!

DELCORA is proud to partner with the next generation of innovators at Widener University!⁣

For the third year, engineering students have taken on an exciting and impactful challenge: how our sewer sludge ash—typically destined for landfill disposal—can be transformed into a sustainable ingredient for concrete. ⁣

Their project, “Recovery of Biochar from Sewage Sludge and Utilization in Depollution Activities,” is pushing the boundaries of environmental engineering and circular resource use.⁣

We’re honored to have supported Widener Engineering students as they presented their work at Widener University’s Annual Senior Capstone Design Projects Presentation Day.⁣

With 15 multidisciplinary teams representing fields from civil to robotics engineering, these students have spent the past year tackling real-world challenges through research, design, testing, and innovation that mimic the professionals shaping our future infrastructure.⁣

At DELCORA, we believe solutions to tomorrow’s environmental challenges start with collaboration, education, and bold ideas 🌎💡
