Planning Board Changes:

For those of you who don't know, we had a change on the Planning Board recently. Jackie Elfers, our Chairwoman, resigned because she couldn't give the time to the board any longer. Jackie had been doing a wonderful job as a leader. She was a pleasure to work with and she will leave huge shoes to fill. People don't understand the work that goes into these municipal boards. They are extremely important to the health and prosperity of towns like ours. They are practically volunteer, with the members only receiving small stipends for all the work they do. Jackie put in the time and the dedication. She looked out for our community in many different ways on the board. Unrelated, but still relevant, she's also donated trees and plants to the town for the dog park and tree dedications. She didn't ask for me to write this but she deserves to be recognized.

The Town Board appointed Mike Mallon to be the next Planning Board Chair. Mike had already been serving on the Planning Board and he was Jackie's choice for her replacement. Mike was one of my first appointments as Town Supervisor. He's been a Chester resident since 1990, has a masters degree in Biological Science & Secondary Education, was a Earth Science & Environmental Science teacher for 36 years, and served on the Chester School District Board from 1998 to 2004. He also coached Little League & Soccer, likes to birdwatch, bike, run, ski, and garden. Last but not least, he's a husband and father of two.

Although I'm sad to see Jackie go, I know the Planning Board is in good hands with Mike. If you ever happen to meet Jackie, please thank her for her service to Chester!

We will never forget what happened 25 years ago. We will never forget the innocent who were taken from us, from their friends, from their family. We will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice trying to save others or trying to stop the attacks across the nation. And we must never forget those who have passed since 9/11/01.

More than triple the amount of people who were taken from us 25 years ago have passed away due to 9/11 related illnesses. They deserved and continue to deserve the best care in the world available, regardless of if they were emergency services, survivors, or residents in the area of the attack.

If you are too young to remember what happed, do your best to learn. If you have the time today, please attend a memorial service. The Chester Kiwanis 9/11 Memorial Service is today at 6PM at Carpenter Community Park (19 Vadala Rd, Chester, NY 10918).

Clean Up Chester, NY:

We pride ourselves on the beauty, character, and community we have here in our town. Although there are two very successful annual cleanup events, they are not always enough to keep our town as clean as it should be. So we are happy to announce a new program called Clean Up Chester, New York!

If you know of an area in town that you would like to clean up yourself, you can sign up and collect garbage bags at either the Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall or the Highway Department at the Highway Garage. Once you are finished collecting the garbage, leave the bag there on the side of the road and notify the Highway Department. They will go out to collect the bags.

This is a good volunteer opportunity for those of you who have the time. If you do a clean up and you are applying for a job or an internship, I will be happy to provide you a letter of recommendation or act as a reference to your character, no matter your age! Thank you in advance to anyone who takes part in this program! Feel free to message or email me pictures so I can highlight the community service!

2027 Budget Town Hall:

Please join me at the Chester Senior Rec Center (81 Laroe Rd, Chester, NY 10918) tonight, September 8th, from 6:45PM - 8:00PM, for the 2027 Budget Town Hall. This is your opportunity to tell me what funding you would like to see included, rescinded, changed in the 2027 Budget before I craft the Tentative Budget.

This is not a meeting where I will be talking at you about the budget. This is a meeting for you to tell me what you would like to see or not see in our community. I'm looking forward to seeing you there! Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to reach out to me if you can't make it in person!
