Thank you to the police department employees who began their service to the Town of Chester in the second quarter!

(All of our officers began their law enforcement careers elsewhere before transferring to the town. The years of service listed here recognize their active continuous service to the town, not their entire service career.)

On Saturday, May 30th, just before 8pm, the Town of Chester Police Department responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Laroe Road between Gibson Hill Road and Bull Mill Road. Upon arrival, officers located a black 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle that had left the roadway. The operator, Patrick Grabowski, 35, of Florida, NY was located nearby and was deceased. The investigation revealed that no other vehicles had been involved in the crash and the operator failed to negotiate a curve on Laroe Road while travelling northbound. We were assisted at the scene by the Chester Fire Department, Empress EMS and the NY State Police.

As the weather is finally getting warmer and outdoor activities are increasing, we are sharing this chart explaining the differences in NYS between e-bikes, mopeds and e-scooters. It is important to note that you must be at least 16 years old to operate an e-bike or moped on a public roadway. While you do not need a license to operate an e-bike, the maximum allowable speed for an e-bike is 25mph. If it's faster than 25mph, it is classified as a different vehicle and probably requires a license and registration. If it's faster than 20mph, helmets are also required.

Unless you just logged into Facebook for the first time in two days and this is the first post you're seeing, you most likely already know that it's supposed to snow a lot on Sunday. If this is news to you, keep scrolling and you shouldn't have any trouble finding more information about the upcoming storm. We're not going to repost all the details but we are going to jump on the bandwagon and ask you not to travel unless it's an emergency, you are emergency personnel or you're engaging in snow removal. Otherwise, you should have ample notice to get your bread, milk and eggs before the snow starts. And there probably won't be any open stores for you to visit anyway. So please stay home, enjoy the storm and know that our members and town highway department employees will be out there working to keep you safe and keep the roads open for emergencies. Stay warm and stay safe!
