There are moments in this profession when words simply are not enough.

The men and women of the City of Chester Police Department extends our deepest condolences, prayers, and support to the Columbia Police Department, SC.

We are praying for strength for the officerโ€™s family, comfort for their loved ones, courage for their brothers and sisters in uniform, and peace for everyone who is carrying the weight of this loss.

May God strengthen every officer who puts on the uniform tomorrow carrying the weight of a fallen brother. May He protect those who continue to serve and bring comfort to the family whose world has forever changed.

Today, the Chester Police Department officers participated in Virtual De-escalation Training, an advanced training program that places officers in realistic, interactive scenarios where they must make critical decisions under pressure. This cutting-edge training strengthens communication skills, improves decision-making, enhances emotional intelligence, and reinforces techniques to safely resolve situations whenever possible.

De-escalation is one of the most valuable tools an officer can possess. Every successful conversation that prevents violence, reduces the need for force, or helps someone in crisis represents a victory for our community. Training like this prepares our officers to protect lives while treating every person with dignity, respect, and professionalism.

Our commitment is simple:
Train harder. Serve better. Build trust.

Chester Police Department Investigates Hit-and-Run; Suspect Arrested

CHESTER, S.C. โ€” On the morning of July 17, 2026, at approximately 8:48 a.m., officers with the Chester Police Department responded to the area of Wilson Street following reports that an elderly man in a wheelchair had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Chester County EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for medical treatment. The victimโ€™s current condition is not being released at this time.

As officers began their investigation, they identified surveillance cameras in the area and obtained video footage that provided a clearer description of the suspect vehicle. Detectives and patrol officers immediately canvassed the surrounding neighborhoods. Investigators also reviewed available Flock Safety camera data; however, the suspect vehicle did not appear to have passed any of the cameras in the area.

Through diligent investigative work, officers located a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle parked at a residence on 134 E. Lacy Street, just minutes from the scene of the collision. A registration check revealed the vehicle was registered to Jermaine Latimore Davie.

During their inspection, officers observed damage and scratch marks to the right front portion of the truck that appeared consistent with the collision. After being advised of his constitutional rights, Davie was interviewed by investigators. During questioning, investigators determined that his statements were inconsistent with the evidence developed during the investigation.

Based on witness statements, surveillance video, physical evidence, and the totality of the investigation, officers identified Jermaine Latimore Davie as the driver involved in the hit-and-run collision. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with: Hit and run and Leaving the scene of an accident

โ€œThis case demonstrates the outstanding investigative work and determination of our officers at Chester Police Departments,โ€ said Chief DuJuan Council.

โ€œA vulnerable member of our community was struck, and the driver chose to leave the scene rather than render aid. Thanks to the quick actions of our officers, surveillance technology, and good investigative police work, a suspect was identified and taken into custody within a short period of time. We remain committed to holding those who endanger the lives of others accountable.โ€
