Another breezy and cool day is in store today, though winds will not be as strong as they were on Tuesday. Sunshine will be filtered through high clouds. Highs in the 60s are some 10 degrees below the seasonal normal, with much cooler air near at the coasts.

Conditions will be dangerous at area beaches again today. Strong onshore flow will result in high seas in the surf zone, as well as a high risk for the development of dangerous rip currents.

May 17-23, 2020, is the 46th annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. NAEMT partners with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to lead annual EMS Week activities. Together, NAEMT and ACEP are working to ensure that the important contributions of EMS practitioners in safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of their communities are fully celebrated and recognized.

EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line". Morris County is fortunate to have a large number of volunteer and paid EMS agencies that make up the municipal-based EMS response teams. The Morris County Office of Emergency Management is responsible for the Morris County OEM/EMS county-wide ambulance services as well as the deployment of the Morris County Mobile Ambulance Bus (MAB), Mass Casualty Response Unit (MCRU), and the Morris County OEM Special Operations Group (SOG), which is a specialized medical team that supports the Morris County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team (SERT).

This week, now more than ever, we want to say THANK YOU to our EMS professionals (BLS & ALS), not only within our county-based system but everyone that plays a part in the 9-1-1 EMS response in Morris County. This includes our fire partners, hospital based EMS systems, hospital emergency room staff at Morristown Medical Center, Saint Clare's Hospital, and the place where it all begins.... our phenomenal Morris County Communications Center 9-1-1 team, as well as our municipal police department dispatchers that maintain their own communications center.

We are all ONE TEAM focused on delivering quality services to the public that we serve. THANK YOU to all of our EMS practitioners for a job well done. Happy #NationalEMSWeek!

The Governor then announced that statewide, non-essential retail businesses will reopen with curbside pickup beginning Monday, May 18. We are #ChesterProud of Mayor Hoven! Chester Firemans Carnival

Chester Firemans Carnival

It is with sadness that the members of the Chester Volunteer Fire Company #1 announce that the 2020 carnival has been canceled. It is a great fundraiser and a fun event for us - we love seeing the happiness it brings to young and old alike. This year, however, the health and safety of our members, volunteers, and patrons must take priority. Out of an abundance of caution this year's event is canceled and we look forward to coming back better than ever in 2021. As always, we appreciate your support.

Senior citizens across the state are being targeted through a phone scam. Victims are contacted, via phone, and informed that their grandchild was in an accident or was arrested and they are in need of bail money to be released. The caller tells the victim the sum of money needed and sends a courier to their home to pick it up or directs them to wire the money or purchase gift cards.

There have been over 70 incidents reported statewide with several occurring in Morris County. Anyone receiving a similar call is asked to contact their local Police Department immediately

Residents received a Reverse 911 call from the Chester Police today regarding this message, in case you saw us on your caller ID.
