On May 12, 2026, Rotarian Cyrus Corbett presented an exciting and informative program highlighting technological breakthroughs in 3D printing.

Cyrus brought his 3D printer to the meeting and demonstrated the printing process by creating a model P-51 Mustang fighter airplane. His goal is to complete 100 airplanes by Christmas to donate to Angel Trees throughout Chester County.

Each airplane takes approximately eight hours to produce and is created using three different colored filaments that are melted and formed layer by layer. Once completed, the parts easily snap together for assembly. Cyrus also shared some of the challenges and learning experiences involved with 3D printing, emphasizing the importance of trial and error in mastering the technology.

Club members enjoyed watching the aircraft come to life during the demonstration and learning how 3D printers can also create a variety of useful everyday and office items. Many templates and designs are available for non-commercial use, opening the door to endless creative possibilities.

Thank you, Cyrus, for a fascinating and hands-on program!

On April 28, 2026, the Club welcomed Tayja Strickland with Truvista Fiber, guest of Wendy Lawson, who presented an informative program on “Seniors & Tech.” Tayja shared valuable insights on technology use among senior citizens, common scams targeting seniors, the growing impact of AI-generated fraud, and practical ways to stay protected online.

Topics included identifying artificial calls and manipulated images, recognizing warning signs of scams, and creating safety protocols with family and loved ones. Common scams discussed included “Love Bombing,” where scammers use excessive compliments and emotional manipulation to build trust, medical and Medicare fraud scams seeking sensitive information, and toll and technology scams that threaten arrest or legal action.

Tayja also highlighted the rise of AI-related scams, encouraging everyone to be cautious of images or messages that appear “too perfect” and to use reverse image searches when possible.

Helpful resources shared included the AARP Fraud Watch Network at 1-877-908-3360 and the Federal Trade Commission’s fraud reporting website at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Thank you, Tayja, for an excellent presentation and for helping our community learn how to stay safe from internet fraud and scams.

On April 21, 2026, the Chester Rotary Club welcomed Robbie Yarborough, Director of School Counseling, and Kelee Christian, Career Development Facilitator at Great Falls High School, who shared the inspiring story behind the Sunshine Closet.

Recognizing that some students face economic hardships that limit access to basic necessities, Mr. Yarborough and Ms. Christian developed an innovative and compassionate solution to support students in a private and dignified way. The Sunshine Closet, located within Great Falls High School and designed to resemble a small store, provides students with access to new clothing, toiletries, backpacks, and other school-related supplies.

Students can discreetly access the Sunshine Closet by contacting Mr. Yarborough or Ms. Christian, with selected items placed privately in the student’s backpack at the end of the school day. This thoughtful initiative not only meets practical needs but also serves as a tremendous morale booster for students and families.

The Sunshine Closet is made possible through the support of the ARRAS Foundation, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, Wateree Baptist Church, the Lonon Foundation, and generous private citizens.

Adding to the day’s generosity, John Davis drew the ace and donated the $259 winnings to the Sunshine Closet in support of this meaningful program.

Thank you to Great Falls High School for creating such an innovative and caring solution that is making a positive difference in the lives of students every day.

On April 14, 2026, the Chester Rotary Club was honored to welcome Georgia Reid Moore and Willie Moore, members of the DSR Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2009 in memory of Derresha Shardaye Rhinehart, who passed away due to medical complications.

The Moore family shared the inspiring work of the DSR Foundation and its continued commitment to serving the community through outreach, education, and support programs. In response to the devastating impact of COVID-19, the Foundation launched COPEG (Circle of People Experiencing Grief) in 2021 to support individuals and families coping with loss and grief.

Recognizing the elevated risk of strokes in Chester County, the Foundation also developed “A Healthier You for Stroke Prevention,” a program focused on education, healthier lifestyles, and encouraging preventative medical care.

The Foundation continues to raise funds through its annual golf tournament at Chester Golf Club and is excited to announce the future home of the DSR Center of Hope at 216 Columbia Street. Once completed, the facility will serve as a hub for DSR programs and will also be available for community events and gatherings.

Thank you Rotarian Angela Boyd for having Georgia Reid More and Willie Moore as your guest speakers.

The Chester Rotary Club was honored to welcome Beth Padgett, District 7750 Foundation Chair, on April 7, 2026, for an inspiring presentation about the life-changing impact of the Rotary Foundation.

A dedicated Rotarian, Past President of the Rotary Club of Greenville, and a forty-year newspaper veteran, Beth shared firsthand experiences from her recent trip to India, where she witnessed the incredible results of the Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus initiative. Since its launch in 1985, Polio Plus has helped prevent an estimated 20 million cases of polio worldwide and brought the disease close to eradication, with only Pakistan and Afghanistan still facing challenges due to unsafe conditions for the workers to immunize. Beth also shared stories from her travels to Honduras supporting clean water projects funded through Rotary efforts.

Her message reminded us that through the support of sustaining members, the Rotary Foundation continues to make local and global projects possible. The Chester Rotary Club encourages everyone to consider supporting the Rotary Foundation during Foundation Month, celebrated from mid-April through mid-May.

The meeting also included a special recognition as Rotarian Joe Collins, attorney and member of the Lexington-Irmo Rotary Club, presented a check to honor his sister, Nancy Collins Anderson, as a Paul Harris Fellow. Joe, a Past President of his club, chose to recognize Nancy for her tireless dedication and advocacy for Chester and Chester County. Joining Joe for the occasion were Nancy’s sons, Rick and Bob.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the mission of Rotary and its commitment to “Service Above Self.”

The Chester Rotary Club had an inspiring meeting on March 31, 2026, celebrating both community revitalization and outstanding student achievement in Chester!

Robert Long welcomed special guests Shaw Kuester, President of Kuester Commercial, and David Dameron, Executive Director of Workability, to share exciting updates on the historic Schlosburg Building at 140 Gadsden Street. Originally built in 1924 as a department store, the building is being transformed into 11 market-rate apartments and 2 retail spaces through a $3.5 million renovation project. One of the retail spaces will soon become the new home of Work-A-Latte Coffee Shop. While a final completion date has not been announced, the project is in the home stretch and expected to open within the next few months. This restoration is another exciting step toward making downtown Chester a more vibrant place to live, work, and play!

The club also recognized two exceptional Students of the Quarter: Morgan Minter from Chester High School and Aiden Pressley from Lewisville High School. Joined by family members and school representatives, both students were honored for their academic excellence, leadership, and involvement in school and community activities.
