🎉 Congratulations to Synteen Technical Fabrics, a Maccaferri company, on the grand opening of its new 133,690-square-foot manufacturing facility in Fort Lawn! 🎉

This significant investment represents the largest Italian foreign direct investment project in Chester County’s history and will bring 75 new jobs to our community while expanding the company’s innovative product offerings for the construction and erosion control industries.

Today’s celebration highlighted the power of collaboration and economic growth. We were honored to welcome South Carolina Honorary Italian Consul Giulio Ronchi and hear remarks from South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey as we celebrated this milestone.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication and persistence of the Chester County Economic Development team. Special recognition goes to Assistant Director Karen Davison, who has worked diligently alongside Newmark Group and SkyREM since October 2024 to help bring this project to fruition.

Investments like this strengthen our local economy, create opportunities for our residents, and reinforce Chester County as a premier destination for business growth and innovation.

🏘️ What is an Opportunity Zone, and why does it matter to Chester?

Opportunity Zones are designated areas where investors can receive federal tax incentives for building new housing, businesses, industries, and other developments. The goal is to encourage private investment in communities that can benefit from additional economic growth and job creation.

For the past 10 years, downtown Chester and surrounding neighborhoods in Census Tract 202 have been designated as an Opportunity Zone. Chester County and the City of Chester are now working together to help secure that designation for the next 10-year cycle.

Over the next few weeks, survey teams will be conducting door-to-door family income surveys in portions of Census Tract 202. The information collected will help demonstrate that our community continues to qualify for this important economic development tool.

If a survey team visits your home, we appreciate your participation. Your response can help support future investment and opportunities in Chester for years to come.

✨ Employee Spotlight: Ronnie Roof - Chester County Auto Maintenance ✨

This month, Chester County is proud to recognize Ronnie Roof, Auto Maintenance Supervisor, for his outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to keeping Chester County moving.

As the leader of the County's Auto Maintenance Division, Ronnie and his team work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Chester County's fleet vehicles and equipment remain operational and ready to serve residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From emergency response vehicles and public works equipment to county service vehicles, Ronnie's shop plays a critical role in supporting nearly every county department.

One of the most significant contributions Ronnie and his crew make is the tremendous cost savings they provide to Chester County taxpayers. By performing repairs, maintenance, and diagnostics in-house, they eliminate the need for many costly outside mechanic services while maintaining a level of quality and reliability that keeps county operations running smoothly.

According to Chester County Public Works Director Devon Bagley:

"Ronnie is always willing to help anyone who steps into his shop. He is hardworking, dedicated, and positive. He always shows up and shows out through his strong work ethic, and nothing is done without a smile! His commitment and willingness to help others make him an extremely valued part of the Chester County Public Works Team!"

Whether he's troubleshooting a mechanical issue, assisting another department, or mentoring his team, Ronnie consistently demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and a servant's heart. His positive attitude and commitment to excellence have earned the respect of his coworkers and make him an invaluable asset to Chester County.
