Here’s more video of today’s fire on Happy Hill Road, taken by a member of our drone team. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Here’s more video from Sunday’s rescue on Humpback Rock in Augusta County. Chesterfield firefighters, who are a part of the MedFlight program, were called in help hoist a hiker to safety. That person got injured on the trail and was unable to hike out.
After the hiker was dropped off in a nearby parking lot to be transported by ambulance to the hospital, MedFlight flew back up the mountain to pick up one of our paramedics who was hoisted down to help secure the injured hiker.
MedFlight is a partnership between Chesterfield Fire and EMS and Virginia State Police. The helicopter is often called in to help rescue people in difficult terrain.
TABLETOP FIRE POTS RECALLED OVER BURN DANGERS
You’ve probably seen them for sale on Amazon. Or you may own one. Nearly 90,000 Colsen-branded tabletop fire pots are being recalled because people are being seriously burned while refilling them. In Chesterfield alone, two people have suffered life-threatening burns.
Please watch this video we put together with our partners at VCU Health's Evans-Haynes Burn Center on the hidden dangers of these fire pots and how to safely refill one.
This week (October 6-12th) is Fire Prevention Week and Lt. Dervon Hayes has a message for you!
If you have time this week, we encourage you to stop by your local fire station and meet the firefighters who protect and serve our community!
Here’s video from a night rescue that Virginia Task Force 8 (VA-TF8) was involved in on Friday with the Salem Fire & EMS Department.
After several long days of working around the clock on rescues and evacuations, VA-TF8, which is made up of members of Chesterfield Fire and EMS’s Technical Rescue and Scuba Rescue Teams, is now demobilizing and heading home. All 19 members are expected to arrive back in Chesterfield later this evening. We’ll have an update once they return.

MEDFLIGHT CREW RESCUES INJURED HIKER
On Sunday afternoon, Chesterfield firefighters, who are a part of the MedFlight program, were called to the Devil’s Marble Yard in Rockbridge County to rescue an injured hiker who was unable to safely make it off the trail.
Local first responders were able to locate the injured hiker and stabilize them until MedFlight arrived on scene. While the State Police pilot held the aircraft steady, a Chesterfield firefighter was lowered 150 feet to the ground, secured the hiker, then hoisted them to safety. The crew then transported the hiker to a trauma center 10 minutes away to be treated for their injuries.
This is the second rescue mission the MedFlight crew has completed in the last month. MedFlight, which is a partnership between Chesterfield Fire and EMS and Virginia State Police, is uniquely equipped and staffed to perform rescue operations, then immediately transition to a med-evac role to handle trauma care.
This highly technical mission could not have been completed without the expertise of the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department in Rockbridge County, the communications capabilities of the Virginia Emergency Operations Center and the partnership between Chesterfield Fire and EMS and Virginia State Police.
