🚲 Summer Safety Reminder from East Madison Fire Territory 🚲

As kids and families spend more time outside this summer, don’t forget one of the simplest ways to stay safe while riding a bicycle… wear a helmet.

📊 According to the CDC, helmets can reduce the risk of serious head injury by nearly 70%.

📊 Hundreds of children are treated in emergency rooms every day across the U.S. for bicycle-related injuries.

Whether you’re riding around the neighborhood, campground, or trail, make sure your helmet fits properly and is buckled every ride.

A helmet only works if you wear it. Stay safe and enjoy your summer! ☀️🚴

Today was Hoosier Burn Camp Family Day, and the East Madison crew got an early start so they could head to camp, join fire apparatus from around the state for the parade, and spend the day making snow cones for the campers and their families.

It’s always a fun day, and it's an event we love being a part of in support of Burn Camp and the work they do.

Keeping children safe in and around water allows everyone to enjoy summer water activities. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years old, and the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children 5 to 14 years old.

Drowning can happen in seconds and is often silent. It can happen to anyone, any time there is access to water. This includes pools and lakes, and also smaller water bodies like bathtubs and water-filled buckets.

Always have a designated sober adult who is dedicated to being a spotter, when children are swimming. For more swimming safety tips, check out ====> https://www.cdc.gov/drowning/prevention/summer-swim-safety.html

🚑 As EMS Appreciation Week comes to a close, East Madison Fire Territory is excited to share a look at the future of EMS service in our community.

We have officially taken delivery of two brand-new Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances from the factory! While there are still a few final steps before they are fully placed into service, these ambulances will soon be responding to emergencies across the East Madison Fire Territory—bringing enhanced reliability, capability, and care to the citizens we proudly serve.

These new ambulances also feature our updated paint scheme, matching the new tankers that joined our fleet last year, continuing a modern and unified look for EMFT.

As we wrap up EMS Appreciation Week, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to the dedicated EMTs and Paramedics of East Madison Fire Territory, as well as EMS professionals across Indiana, the nation, and around the world.

Whether it’s at home, at work, on the road, or even while on vacation, EMS professionals are there when seconds matter most—providing compassionate, lifesaving care when people need it most.

Thank you for your commitment, sacrifice, and service.

💙 Happy EMS Appreciation Week from all of us at East Madison Fire Territory.

Do you ever wonder why, when you call 911 for a medical emergency, an ambulance and a fire truck often respond?

Here’s why:

🔥 More trained hands, faster care – Medical emergencies often require multiple responders. CPR, lifting a patient, managing airways, medications, and patient assessment all happen quickly—and extra trained personnel make a huge difference.

💓 Advanced medical capabilities – At East Madison Fire Territory, our firefighters are also EMTs or Paramedics. That means whether you see an ambulance or a fire engine, advanced medical care may already be arriving.

🏠 Specialized equipment & manpower – Cardiac arrests, falls, traumatic injuries, and difficult patient access situations often require more equipment and more people than an ambulance crew alone.

🤝 It’s all about giving you the best chance at the best outcome – When seconds matter, sending the right resources quickly saves lives.

During EMS Appreciation Week, we’re proud of the teamwork between our firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who respond every day when our community needs help most.

As we celebrate EMS Appreciation Week, we want to recognize the dedicated professionals of East Madison Fire Territory who respond when our community needs help most.

Many people ask, “What’s the difference between an EMT and a Paramedic?”

👨‍🚒 EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) provide critical basic life support—patient assessments, CPR, oxygen therapy, bleeding control, and other essential emergency care.

💉 Paramedics receive advanced medical training that allows them to provide a higher level of care, including cardiac monitoring, IV medications, advanced airway procedures, and other life-saving interventions.

At East Madison Fire Territory, most of our team members are Firefighter/EMTs, Firefighter/Paramedics, or Paramedics. Our paramedics aren’t just assigned to ambulances—they are often staffing our fire engines as well, bringing advanced life support directly to the scene faster when someone in our community is experiencing a medical emergency.

When seconds matter, having advanced medical care arriving quickly can make all the difference.

Thank you to our EMS professionals for your compassion, training, and commitment to serving our community every single day. ❤️🚒🚑
