Cold Meal, Warm Hearts - As the World Looks On…

I recently shared a photo of one our officers who made an arrest after recovering a stolen gun, a small bundle of cash, and an array of drugs. It was disturbing, but not surprising, that some people fixated on the drugs and completely missed the reality that money, guns, and drugs in combination is, quite literally ,the toolkit of a drug dealer - the folks who financially exploit those struggling with addiction. A few others didn’t understand why I’d draw attention to someone “just doing their job.” Bless their hearts for not recognizing the value of such proactive work and for being apathetic enough to criticize that which they blissfully don’t understand.

Speaking of blissful apathy, this morning, I thought I’d share with you an account of an incident that occurred last night which was posted by a friend of one of our lieutenants, Matthew Dunn. I think it nicely highlights how on-duty and off-duty, the men and women “in blue” look after EVERYONE in our community while much of the world carries on. They do so without fanfare and oddly enough without cell phone video…weird, right?

Matt and Steve, thank you. Kevin, I appreciate you taking the time to share your view. I’ve left your last names off of this to insulate you from the angry trolls who inevitably surface when you counter their narrative. Strong work. 🖤🖤💙🖤🖤

Sunday, January 9th, 2022, is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

While I serve as our Chief of Police, I’m also a proud member of this community - a community that has embraced our Chesterfield County Police personnel with a level of kindness and partnership unparalleled by any jurisdiction in this nation.

I feel responsible to acknowledge this day, but equally responsible to recognize YOU, those we serve, for the manner in which you treat and support our men and women day in and day out.

So today, our LAW ENFORCEMENT staff extends a heartfelt APPRECIATION for YOU. Yes, it’s an unconventional twist on how things are commonly done, but that’s how we roll!!

Blessings to each of you - and to our staff, and their families, our volunteers, retirees, and partners - I’m deeply grateful for you, this and every day!

We would like to thank everyone that took part in this past year's Bike for the Blue bike ride to Washington D. C. Thanks to the many volunteers, participants, donors and support teams, we not only had a safe and successful ride, but we were also able to donate $500 through the Chesterfield County Police Foundation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). We are excited to be able to give back to NLEOMF, a non-profit organization, that has given so much to those that have paid the "Ultimate Sacrifice." This organization works tirelessly to commemorate our fallen officers, ensuring they are revered and never forgotten.

In other news, on behalf of the Bike for the Blue event, The Chesterfield County Police Foundation, Inc. recently authorized a donation to the NLEOMF for 2017 as well!

As we continue our journey to keep this memorial ride alive for many years to come, we thank The Chesterfield County Police Foundation, Inc. for assisting us in our efforts to recognize our FALLEN HEROES!

Today was a great day to celebrate our future and honor our past. The Chesterfield County Police Department along with the Chesterfield County Police Foundation awarded William Diefenthaler the 2015 Craig Rath Memorial Scholarship. William's winning essay detailed what he had learned from the STEPP program, how students and police can work in partnership to improve the quality of schools and neighborhoods, and how every fifth grader can become a winner in the fight against drugs. William was selected from over 4,000 fifth graders of all of the 38 public elementary schools in Chesterfield County. He was awarded with a plaque, a certificate from Colonel Dupuis and a check for $250, all in honor of the late Officer Craig Rath.
