Today, we pause to remember the extraordinary courage and sacrifice displayed on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Thousands of Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the most pivotal moments in history, fighting to defend freedom at tremendous personal cost.

We honor the bravery of those who served, the lives that were lost, and the enduring legacy left behind by the Greatest Generation. Their heroism and selflessness will never be forgotten.

💚 June is PTSD Awareness Month 💚

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. If you or someone you know is struggling, know that help is available and recovery is possible.

Sometimes the most important thing you can do is listen, offer support, and encourage someone to seek professional help. No one has to face PTSD alone.

If you are struggling, reach out to a trusted friend, family member, mental health professional, or support organization. Taking the first step toward help is a sign of strength.

Today, deputies from the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Unit visited the Chesterfield County Police Department's memorial to pay their respects to K-9 Knight, who made the ultimate sacrifice on May 31, 2026.

As our community continues to mourn this tremendous loss, we remember Knight not only as a police K-9, but as a loyal partner, faithful companion, and courageous protector who served alongside his fellow officers with unwavering dedication. The bond between a K-9 and their handler is unlike any other, and we recognize the profound loss felt by those who knew and worked beside him.

Our thoughts and continued prayers remain with Cpl. John Walsh, the two officers injured in the incident, their families, and the entire Chesterfield County Police Department as they navigate this difficult time.

May we never forget Knight's sacrifice, the bravery displayed that day, and the commitment of those who put themselves in harm's way to protect our community. His service, loyalty, and legacy will forever be remembered.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to recognize the invisible wounds many carry and the strength it takes to keep moving forward.

PTSD can affect anyone—military members, first responders, survivors of trauma, and everyday people who have faced life-altering events. What it often looks like isn’t always visible: disrupted sleep, anxiety, hypervigilance, or moments that feel harder than they should.

This month is about awareness, but also understanding and support.

If you or someone you know is struggling:
• You are not alone
• Help is available
• Recovery is possible
• Talking to someone is a strong first step

Let’s continue building a culture where seeking help is met with support, not silence.
