The Chestertown Recreation Commission, a group appointed by the Mayor and Council, is in the process of developing a set of recommendations and a budget request for the Mayor and Council for enhanced recreation equipment and facilities in Chestertown - including playgrounds. The CRC hosted a meeting about recreation and playgrounds on January 25th and this e-mail has the follow up survey that we said we would have out which is based on the ideas that were provided by the group during the meeting. They would very much like to have as many responses as possible to this survey! Please respond by March 4.

The Chestertown Recreation Commission (CRC) is interested in knowing what recreation facilities and equipment residents in the greater Chestertown area would like to see in Chestertown over the next few years. The CRC has determined that while Chestertown is making progress in increasing its recreat…

Amid the blaring of pop tunes, the humming of power tools and the grinding of saws, Jay Ranaweera, masked by protective goggles, is at work on his latest project at the Station North Tool Library on a Sunday afternoon.

We're starting an online petition to let the County Commissioners know how many of us would support the expansion of the Rail Trail to the Kent County Community Center in Worton, essentially tripling its size. Please take a moment to lend your name to the cause. Also, share this with anyone else who could be an ally. Politicians listen to numbers!

Thanks. See you on the trail!

The Chestertown Rail Trail, or Wayne Gilchrest Trail, currently consists of 1.5 miles of paved trail in Chestertown, MD originating at the old train station near Wilmer Park and extending to Morgnec Road/SR 291. Because the trail occupies an abandoned rail corridor that last saw freight service in…

Please continue to spread the word about the Chestertown Tool Library. The more people that we can get involved, the better chance we have of being successful.

Look to this page on Monday. We'll announce the first meeting for folks who are interested in making this a reality.

Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle was born in 1795, and he said something about tools that’s at least as true today as ever: “Man is a tool-using animal. Without tools he is nothing, with tools he is all.” This notion is behind a growing Canadian and international movement that provides tools and…

We can learn from the success of others.

"A really cool way of contributing we saw was especially in the senior community," Steiner says. "We've had at least three instances of seniors getting ready to move to assisted living homes and they basically decided to donate their whole workshop to us." The "well-loved" tools these people donated ranged from fine woodworking equipment to table saws and drill presses; they weren't donations, she points out, but rather inheritances.

The Denver Tool Library's crowdfunding campaign was a success, and the tool lending-library/public workspace will open in February 2015 at 555 Santa Fe Drive.

Well, this is certainly encouraging. In less than 48 hours, we've had over 70 'likes' as well as an offer to donate multiple power tools and a possible location.

Spread the word to anyone who might be interested. Let's give this another week to marinate and then we'll plan a meeting for anyone who wants to discuss the details of how to make this a reality.

The purpose of this page is to gauge the interest of the Chestertown community in starting a Tool Library. If enough of us 'Like' the idea maybe this can become a real thing. What I envision is something similar to the West Philly Tool Library. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, check out their short video here:

Sounds like exactly what it is. Great idea! Good folks. The PHILO Project is a nonprofit that provides qualifying small Philadelphia nonprofit organizations ...
