Help us move shelter supplies into storage in the church basement (Chestertown Church of the Nazarene) on Wednesday, April 1st, at 11 am.

We are hoping to get enough people that we will be able to create a “bucket brigade” kind of line with multiple people stationary on the steps to pass along the 15 bedframes to one another, rather than have people need to carry bedframes and mattresses down the steps individually. If we get enough people, putting things into storage won’t be too strenuous or take very long.

Between when the Shelter opened on December 1st 2025, and when the Shelter closes the morning of April 1st 2026, we served a total of 24 unhoused people this year (14 men, 9 women, and 1 child) for a total of 1,273 bed nights.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered and supported the Samaritan Group Winter Shelter to help make this happen

Our thanks to everyone who has donated items to support serving dinners and packing lunches for guests at the emergency winter shelter over the past two months.

As we move into February, we're running low on disposable cups, paper towels, and plastic utensils, especially forks. If you're interested in donating any of these items, they can be dropped off at Kent County Public Library's Chestertown Branch during their regular hours of operation.

Monetary donations are also always welcome and can be made here: https://www.samaritangroupofkentcounty.org/donate

Our thanks to everyone who has donated to the paper goods drive so far! These donations have supported serving dinners and packing lunches for guests at the emergency winter shelter throughout December.

As we move into January, we're in really good shape with many of the items, but are running a bit low on disposable plastic cups for cold drinks, disposable coffee cups with lids, and paper towels. If you're interested in donating any of these items, we'd appreciate it!

Donations can be dropped off at Kent County Public Library's Chestertown Branch during their regular hours of operation.

“We received a donation from a family who opened their electric bill, and it was higher than expected. Their thoughts turned to folks who will struggle to pay this kind of increase, so they donated to the Good Neighbor Fund.” -Terwana Brown, president of the Chester Valley Ministers Association (CVMA)

Through partnership with the Good Neighbor Fund, Samaritan Group is able to provide year-round support to members of the community who are in need. Read more about our initiatives and how you can support them here:

After a successful three months in which we have provided 661 bednights for 21 people who are experiencing homelessness, the emergency winter shelter will close for the season on Tuesday, April 1.

If you are available on Tuesday morning, we would welcome your help with packing and moving all the beds and shelter supplies into storage.

To help with the move, please come to the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown at 905 Gateway Drive at 9am on Tuesday, April 1. The more the merrier (and the lighter the work), so feel free to bring a friend!

If you would like to support Samaritan Group, but aren't able to join us on Tuesday, April 1, please consider donating to support our year-round outreach work to help people stay in their current housing and to support those who are experiencing homelessness.
