Kent Soil & Water Conservation District

Kent Soil & Water Conservation District KSWCD partners with local, state and federal agencies to help protect the Chesapeake Bay by working with landowners to install best management practices

The Kent Soil & Water Conservation District works closely with local, state and federal government to insure the protection of the Chesapeake Bay. District representatives sit on numerous committees working with the local government to meet TMDL (total maximum daily load) and WIP (watershed implementation) goals set forth by the state of Maryland. We also work with local schools to teach about con

servation and mentor the local high school with preparing to compete in the Maryland Envirothon http://mdenvirothon.org/

Cover crop sign up for 2026-27 will start on June 22. Make sure you bring your Current Nutrient Management Certification form and fill out W-9 if any changes. New this year is that soybeans are eligible for aerial. Non-poultry manure can be applied in spring or fall but only for manure produced on farm. We also will have new fact sheets that make all of the program pieces clearer.

Excited to partner with Center for Environment & Society at Washington College and other community partners to help find solutions to clean up our beautiful Langford Bay!

Dr. Chelsea Peters, director of the Watershed Innovation Lab, kicked off the first of many Langford Watershed Alliance (LWA) workshops on April 24!

Thanks to a recent NFWF grant, the Alliance is launching efforts to improve water quality in the Langford Creek watershed, through baseline monitoring, design development, and collaboration with landowners and partners to identify priority areas.

We had a full house (and a few virtual attendees!), with over six partner organizations represented.

Looking forward to what’s ahead! 💡👏💧
