Since our original post, Layla has been in contact with family members but her whereabouts are still unknown. We ask that you continue to share this post until she is located.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate 15-year-old Layla Vasquez of Chestertown. Anyone with information on Layla's location is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 410-778-2279.

Another year, another successful NAPWDA patrol K9 certification passed and locked down by K9 Khari (SGT Lockerman) and K9 Draco (CPL Piasecki) this past weekend. These teams train a minimum of 16 hours a month with their training group Tydewater Strategic Services, and sometimes more with self-initiated training while on duty. Certifications are an added two days of intense qualifying training where the K9 and the handler are tested and observed at a high standard through the North American Police Work Dog Association. All of this is done with the Sheriff's Office mission in mind of keeping our communities and their members safe and secure.

The 2026 Rock Hall Triathlon will be taking place this weekend (May 30th - 31st) in the Rock Hall area. Expect a large amount of cyclists on Route 20, Route 298, Route 445, as well as numerous county roads throughout southern Kent County. Use caution and allow extra time both Saturday and Sunday morning. Deputies will be at many intersections to assist with traffic control.
