The new school year is almost here!

When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, ALL traffic must come to a complete stop — from both directions.

A citation for this offense carries a $570 fine and 3 points.

Never pass a stopped school bus, and always watch for children entering or crossing the roadway.

A few extra seconds could save a life.

Slow down. Stay alert. Keep our kids safe!

🚨 JURY DUTY SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Sheriff’s Office has received several reports this week of a phone scam where callers are claiming to be deputies from our office. The caller tells the victim they have a warrant for their arrest for missing jury duty and must make an immediate payment to avoid being taken into custody.

Our office will never call you in regard to missing jury duty.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

The Sheriff’s Office will never call you and demand payment for a warrant, and we will never ask for payment in gift cards, prepaid cards, or any similar method.

If you receive a call like this:
• Do not send money or provide gift card numbers
• Hang up immediately
• Report the call to your local law enforcement agency

Please help protect your friends and family by sharing this post, especially with elderly family members who are often targeted by scammers.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the community that the incident on Flatland Road has been safely resolved. The suspect was transported to the hospital due to known medical conditions.

We sincerely thank the community for your patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout this incident. This was an incredible example of multiple law enforcement agencies coming together, working side by side, and supporting one another to bring a difficult situation to a safe conclusion.

Update at 10pm… one subject is in custody. We are working to reopen the roadway as soon as possible and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding.

We are currently on the scene of a potential barricade situation with multiple shots fired in the 100 block of Flatland Road near Edge of Town Drive. Please avoid the area.

We thank the Kent County Community Center-Parks & Recreation for inviting us to share our K9 teams with the summer campers today! And we're especially thankful they allowed us to come inside 🥵🙌🏼🤣. We had a great time educating the campers and allowing them to see first-hand what our K9s can do.
