Boston College Eagle Political Society

Boston College Eagle Political Society "Education, Debate, and Compromise." The inspiration for the Eagle Political Science came from the desire of our founder, Taylor V.

Eggleston to change the face of political organizations at Boston College. The Eagle Political Society will fill a current void in the BC community; no other non-partisan political organization dedicated to “Education, Debate, and Compromise” currently exists on campus. The Society will be committed to providing students with an open and comfortable atmosphere for political debate on campus as wel

l as the opportunity to learn from the knowledge and opinions of their peers, have a voice on political issues and current events, and develop a greater appreciation for compromise in American politics. The Eagle Political Society maintains a tight partnership with the University Mission of Boston College as well as the unique nature of BC student life. The Boston College Mission Statement states: “As a Catholic and Jesuit university, it is rooted in a world view that encounters God in all creation and through all human activity, especially in the search for truth in every discipline, in the desire to learn, and in the call to live justly together.” This particular section of BC’s Mission correlates directly with the goals and values of the Eagle Political Society. It is the belief of our founder and her Executive Board that through a search for truth, a desire to learn from one another, and a dedication to the building of a just society, most of this country’s political questions can be answered. This is a belief that few politicians and public servants trust any more, but it will be the goal of the Eagle Political Society to rekindle faith in the values of education, debate, and compromise in the setting of political discussion. The Eagle Political Society will be welcoming of members from all backgrounds, political affiliations, and fields of study. By coming together with the intention of learning from, debating, and compromising with one another, the Eagle Political Society will have the unique opportunity to take on some of the United States’ most important political discussions, and – with a little luck and a lot of hard work – solve some of the nation’s most pressing issues right here in Chestnut Hill, MA.
