PUBLIC NOTICE
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment routinely recommends that public water supplies that utilizes a combined chlorine residual to prevent the formation of disinfection by-products which can have an adverse effect on human health. After an extended period of time, a combined chlorine residual can allow the formation of bio growths in the distribution lines. While these bio growths do not present a hazard to human health, they can deplete the chlorine residual that is necessary to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses that can be harmful to humans.
The City of Chetopa plans to use a free chlorine residual starting Monday, August 31, 2026, through around September 30, 2026. During this period of time, you may notice some chlorine tastes and odors in the water. There is no cause for alarm, and this is being done purely as a precautionary measure, and as part of our ongoing efforts to provide the people of Chetopa with the safest possible drinking water. In accordance with city policy, the following building permit request is being published: Joel and Kim Riddle to move in a 20’x8’x8 1/2’ storage container at 122 South 9th Street in the City of Chetopa. A hearing on this building permit request shall be held at 7:00 p.m., September 15, 2026, before the Chetopa City Council at City Hall in Chetopa, Kansas. Any person with objections, protests or comments regarding this permit being issued should appear before the City Council at the scheduled meeting on the 15th day of September 2026.
