As of October 3, 2021, until further notice, Acting Captain Andrew Kvech stepped into the role of Acting Chief of Police for the Town of Cheverly Police Department (CPD). Kvech has been with the CPD for nearly seven years serving as a patrol officer, detective, CPDโ€™s Criminal Investigative Divisionโ€™s supervisor, and Patrol Commander. Acting Chief Kvech is also the department's lead fi****ms instructor, taser instructor, and training coordinator.
During an interview with the Cheverly Police Chiefโ€™s Advisory Board, Acting Chief Andrew Kvech stated, โ€œBy the time I retire, I want to be able to look back and say I helped people and did things the right way. That makes it all worth it.โ€

As a mentee of former Chief Jarod Towers, Acting Chief of Police Andrew Kvech, shares the same love for the community and 21st century policing as Chief Towers. Acting Chief Kvech strongly believes in the Cheverly Police Department's motto of Integrity, Teamwork, and Fairness and wants the community to know that they can expect the same level of great service from the Cheverly Police Department.

As you see, Acting Chief Kvech around the town wish him well. A Chief of Police is only as strong as the community he serves. We are here to serve you, Cheverly.

The Day of Atonement, also observed as Yom Kippur, is the holiest and most sacred day for those of the Jewish faith. The 10th date of Tishrei, and the last of the days of penitence, Yom Kippur is a day of abstinence, refrainment, repentance, and forgiveness.

This year, 2021, Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Wednesday, September 15th and ends the evening of Thursday, September 16th.

After being made aware of the concerns from our family, friends, and fellow neighbors that observe Yom Kippur, and taking into consideration all involved, the Cheverly Police Department has made the decision to move its Public Safety Day event back, by one day, to

We believe this to be a small change that can be done out of respect for those in our Jewish community and as a means of ensuring that those who wish to attend our event are able to do so.

On Tuesday, July 20th, at approximately 9:00 am, officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of State Street for a burglary. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that an unknown suspect forced entry into the victimsโ€™ residence, through a basement door, stole an iPhone and a bicycle, and fled the area via the stolen bicycle. Investigations placed the actual occurrence of the crime at approximately 2:00 am that morning.

During their investigation, officers from the Cheverly Police Department (CPD) learned that one of the victims was tracking the stolen iPhone. This information was relayed to the Prince Georgeโ€™s County Police Department whose officers were able to respond to the area in question where they observed a single individual with the tracked iPhone on their person. That individual was taken into custody and ultimately turned over to the Cheverly Police Department.

CPD detectives, through their investigation, located surveillance video from the area of the burglary that positively identified the individual as the suspect who fled the scene on the victimโ€™s bicycle.

A huge thank you to all that attended the Summer Party/End of the School Year Celebration at the Go Kart Track in Bladensburg.

None of this would have been possible without the coordination and planning provided by the Cheverly PCAB's Youth Committee and VineCorps.

Our officers were given the opportunity to answer some questions from the youth of the community and provide some insight and personalized experiences in the realm of law enforcement. Goodie bags, created by department staff, where provided to those in attendance.

We enjoyed pizza, ice cream, and of course the main event, the Go-Kart track!!!

Cheverlyโ€™s Mayor Kayce Munyeneh stopped by in support and enjoyed a few laps around the track with the community and department staff.

Special shout out to Anne Arundel County Police Department's police chief, Chief Amal Awad, for stopping by and joining in on the fun.

The department wants to congratulate all students and wishes them an enjoyable, and well deserved, summer.
