A call to service is a strong motivational force. It is a paean to Democracy and the highest aspiration of all. There were hundreds of us across the state who heeded the call and rose to the occasion. We ran for office, men & women, young & old alike. Not all managed to cross the finish line. But as someone said:
"For when the One Great Writer comes
To write against your name
He sees not if you won or lost,
But how you played the game".
We entered late but with gusto! We threw ourselves into the process and as our team built so did the tempo. And what a team it was! We burned the midnight oil, we laughed, joked, door-knocked, phone-banked and slowly built a new family structure. The invisible bonds that bind us are there for keeps!
I am grateful to my thousands of friends and supporters who believed in me. My team was as diverse as our nation and as resilient! Robbie, Ali, Elvir, Marisha, Samier & Shelly, you did yourselves and me proud! The beautiful, talented and enthusiastic army of students and young professionals who took to the streets to convince voters to support their candidate was inspiring. You all rock!
It was a privilege to engage with my opponents and other aspirants to political office. The hundreds of contestants fanning our District who believed in their mission and had a message are an inspiration to us all. Thank you all for running!
As we continue our daily chores after this heady interlude we need to constantly remind ourselves that our nation needs us as never before. The head-winds blowing against us are strong but we can resist effectively if we band together. I am as committed today as I was the day I decided to run for office. Let us all continue the good fight and keep building our nation into the beacon of hope it has always been.
I am running for Delegate of Maryland’s 16 District to bring strong leadership, innovative ideas, and sound solutions on issues that matter to women, children, and businesses.
